Location: AdventHealth Lenexa City Center

The community you’ll be caring for:

Our newest hospital in the Kansas City metro area — AdventHealth Lenexa City Center — includes around-the-clock emergency care, surgical services, and inpatient beds for medical-surgical and short-stay units.

The new campus features:

  • 244,000 square feet
  • Capacity for 98 total beds (44 on opening and 54 for future expansion)
  • Four operating rooms (two upon opening and two for future dates)

The Respiratory Therapist provides direct respiratory care to patients across all hospital areas as outlined in the Pulmonary Services procedure manual. They are knowledgeable in providing and evaluating routine and critical care modes of respiratory care. They are responsible for the effective and optimal administration of modalities based on assessment and evaluation, and for making recommendations or changes to care based on the patient’s current status.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Respond to emergency situations immediately, perform appropriate patient assessment and intervention, and replace emergency supplies promptly.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Code Blue and Rapid Response procedures.
  • Ensure code blue intubation and blade boxes are checked daily and after use.
  • Perform respiratory care procedures according to physician orders, department policies, and patient care plans.
  • Perform ABGs, interpret results, and take appropriate actions.
  • Follow the AIDET model (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank) at all times.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with devices such as EzPAP, Flutter Valve, PEP, Theravest/Smart Vest, Acapella, and Incentive Spirometry.
  • Initiate and operate the Draeger Ventilator and the iVent system.
  • Identify appropriate interventions, initiate, and document in hospital IPOCS.

Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate’s Degree or graduation from a Technical School
  • Up to 1 year of experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • 1 to 2 years of position-related experience
  • American Association of Respiratory Care Certified Pulmonary Function Tech or Registered Pulmonary Function Tech
  • Two years of clinical experience for new grads is acceptable in lieu of 1 year of work experience

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Kansas Respiratory Therapist License
  • BCLS through the American Heart Association
  • NRP if working in the NICU
