Job summary

AdventHealth Port Charlotte, FL is seeking a part-time phlebotomy technician to support the laboratory team during night shifts. You will perform venipuncture, specimen labeling, and ensure timely processing while adhering to safety policies.

The role requires reading, writing and speaking English, basic computer skills, and flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays. Training is provided and benefits start on day one.

Qualifications

• High School Grad or Equiv (Required)
• Technical/Vocational School (Preferred)
• Phlebotomy training program (Required for certain positions)
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Phlebotomy experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Transport hazardous waste to designated storage area following safety policies.
• Perform venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently.
• Label specimens correctly and ensure orders are received properly.
• Prioritize routine specimens with STATs and alerts handled first.
• Follow PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling policies.
• Support daily workflow and problem resolution for phlebotomy service.
• Maintain professional phlebotomy performance and teamwork.

Job Description

Transports hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area, completing required training for proper handling and transport. May troubleshoot phlebotomy service concerns and coordinate daily workload assignments. Supports leadership with daily workflow and problem resolution. Serves as an example of professional phlebotomy performance. Performs venipuncture and microtainer collection accurately and efficiently. Ensures specimens are correctly labeled and orders are received properly. Prioritizes routine specimen receipt in the laboratory on a “first in – first out” basis, with stat and alert specimens prioritized before routine orders. Follows appropriate safety policies, including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling. Other duties as assigned.

• Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary) Preferred; completion of a phlebotomy training program Required for certain positions.
• Familiarity with using computers, telephone, fax, copier, printers, and various laboratory equipment including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, blood bank and microbiology analyzers, glucometers, incubators, environmental hood, monitored refrigerators and freezers, centrifuges, phlebotomy chairs, and supplies. Required for certain roles.
• Excellent verbal, written, and clerical skills. Required for specific job functions.

Field of Study

• Completion of a phlebotomy training program preferred
