Job description

Who We’re Looking For (Position Overview):

Spry is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented AV Technician to support one of our National Security Clients. This position is essential in delivering secure, high-quality audiovisual (A/V) and video teleconferencing (VTC) capabilities.

The Senior AV Technician is a technical lead responsible for the full lifecycle of advanced AV/VTC systems: from design and procurement through installation, integration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and user training. This position serves as the escalation point for complex technical issues, mentors junior staff, and collaborates closely with IT and security teams to ensure systems operate securely and meet mission-critical performance standards.

What Your Day-To-Day Looks Like (Position Responsibilities):
  • Advanced System Deployment & Integration
  • Lead engineering, installation, configuration, and calibration of AV/VTC systems (projectors, cameras, DSPs, codecs, control systems, switchers, conferencing gear) for classified and unclassified environments.
  • Interface AV systems with network infrastructure, implementing secure AV‑over‑IP, VLANs, routing, and IP configurations.
  • Troubleshooting & Escalation
  • Serve as subject-matter expert for complex audio/video issues, from signal flow anomalies to network integration errors.
  • Diagnose networked AV, DSP, codec, and control system failures; implement permanent solutions.
  • Preventive Maintenance & System Health
  • Develop and execute scheduled maintenance, firmware updates, system calibrations, and performance monitoring.
  • Inspect cable terminations, mounts, and physical system integrity; optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Leadership & Mentoring
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to junior AV technicians, elevating team performance.
  • Assist in drafting SOPs, maintenance schedules, and best-practice guides.
  • Project Management & Coordination
  • Plan and coordinate AV deployments and upgrades; manage resources, timelines, and documentation (e.g., wiring diagrams, redlines).
  • Liaise with project managers, contractors, IT teams, and external vendors to align on technical and schedule requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain thorough records of system configurations, troubleshooting logs, maintenance activities, and incident reports.
  • Provide actionable reporting on system status, performance metrics, equipment utilization, and recurring issues.
  • End‑User Training & Support
  • Conduct user training and knowledge-transfer sessions for stakeholders.
  • Provide real-time onsite/in-call assistance during briefings, conferences, and technical events.
What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Requirements):
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Electronics, Communications, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with professional AV systems in secure or mission-driven environments.
  • In absence of years of experience, certifications or past work may be used to show the level of experience needed to perform at this level
  • Experience with secure video streaming solutions and classified communications systems.
  • Experience supporting AV operations in federal government or DoD agencies.
  • Strong knowledge of audio-visual hardware, VTC technologies, video codecs, IP-based streaming, and networking fundamentals.
  • Proficiency with AV control systems and AV software tools.
  • Experience working in a Zero Trust or highly secure environment.
  • Ability to independently assess technical issues and implement solutions.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship and active Top Secret clearance.
