Job summary

Marotta Controls in Parsippany, NJ, seeks an A&T Tech II, Mechanical to join the manufacturing team. You will ensure products meet functions, read blueprints, solder/crimp/assemble electronic systems, and test using a range of tools while following mil-specs and ESD policies.

You will operate both assembly and test equipment, document results, and contribute to Lean improvements. Overtime and modest travel (5–10%) may be required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to test repetitive products.
  • Ability to understand and work with blueprint drawings.
  • Detail-oriented, with ability to work in a fast-paced environment and follow procedures.
  • Effective verbal/written communication skills for interacting with all levels of personnel.
  • Computer literate, with MS Office experience and basic PC skills.
  • 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing/testing environment (less with a recent A.A.S. degree).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure products perform their proposed functions satisfactorily.
  • Read and interpret documents (procedures, schematics/technical drawings) and use measuring devices to confirm tooling/fixturing geometries and dimensions.
  • Complete work per technical specifications and regulatory requirements including mil-specs.
  • Solder, crimp and assemble critical electronic systems.
  • Operate in accordance with ESD policies.
  • Set up and operate assembly tools and testing equipment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, multimeters).
  • Assist with testing equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Conduct function testing, troubleshoot, rework, and document results.
  • Maintain accurate parts and counts; identify test failure causes and assist in corrective actions.
  • Document Lean ideas to improve efficiency.
  • Coordinate with vendors for outside processes.
  • Assist in packaging hardware per ESD procedures.
  • Maintain hand tools in good condition.
  • Notify supervisor of equipment needing repair.
  • Handle and dispose of chemicals properly with PPE.
  • Identify routing discrepancies and notify for changes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to test repetitive products

Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities
  • Primary duty is to ensure that products perform their proposed functions in a satisfactory manner
  • Read, interpret documents (i.e. procedures, schematics/technical drawings, etc.) and use necessary measuring devices/equipment to confirm tooling/fixturing geometries and dimensions, as directed
  • Complete work as directed, in compliance with technical specifications and regulatory requirements including mil-specs
  • Solder, crimp and assemble critical electronic systems
  • Operate in accordance to Company ESD (electro static discharge) policies
  • Setup and operate tools required for assembly including, but not limited to; standard hand tools, load testing devices, micrometers, depth mics, calipers and microscopes
  • Setup and operate equipment required for testing including, but not limited to; multimeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, pressure, gauges and transducers, data recorders, load cells, and flow meters
  • Assist with testing equipment maintenance and/or repair
  • Conduct function testing, troubleshoot, rework, and document results fully and accurately
  • Maintain accurate parts and part count for each job
  • Identify causes for test failures and perform requested rework with limited supervision. Participate in corrective action resolution.
  • Document and support Lean ideas to improve the efficiencies of the company
  • Communicate with vendors for scheduling outside processes
  • Assist in packaging hardware in accordance to ESD procedures
  • Maintain all hand tools in clean working condition
  • Notify supervisor of any equipment that requires repair
  • Properly handle and dispose of chemicals used, utilizing proper PPE (as required)
  • Identify any routings discrepancy and notify supervisor so changes can be made, if necessary
  • Perform other job duties as requested, directed or assigned

Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • This position entails constant exposure to abrasive chemicals
  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 8 hours, Monday through Friday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.
  • Some travel may be required for this position (5-10%)
