Job summary

Aviation Institute of Maintenance is seeking experienced Aircraft Maintenance Technicians to become instructors at our on-site programs nationwide. You will deliver FAA-aligned curriculum and hands-on instruction to aspiring AMTs, mentoring students in both classroom and hangar environments.

The role requires an FAA A&P certificate and at least 3 years of maintenance experience, with opportunities for full-time, part-time, and flexible scheduling across campuses.

Qualifications

  • FAA A&P certificate required.
  • Minimum 3 years aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Background as A&P mechanic or AMT.
  • Experience mentoring others is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Teach FAA Part 147-aligned curriculum in hands-on classrooms and hangar environments.
  • Deliver instruction to prepare students for A&P certification.
  • Demonstrate practical maintenance skills and safety procedures.
  • Maintain records of attendance, grades and progress; contribute to curriculum updates.

About the Role

As an Aircraft Maintenance Instructor (A&P Mechanic Instructor), you will deliver FAA Part 147-aligned aviation maintenance curriculum and provide hands-on instruction to students preparing for careers as aircraft maintenance technicians (AMTs).

This role is ideal for experienced A&P mechanics, aircraft mechanics, and aviation maintenance professionals who want to combine technical expertise with mentorship and training while delivering hands-on aviation maintenance instruction in classroom and active hangar environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach aircraft maintenance systems, procedures, and techniques in a hands-on environment
  • Deliver FAA-aligned curriculum to prepare students for A&P certification
  • Demonstrate practical skills used by A&P mechanics and aviation technicians
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress
  • Support curriculum updates and collaborate with program leadership
  • Help create a structured, engaging, and safety-focused learning environment
  • Maintain classroom, lab equipment, and training materials
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree in aviation or related field preferred
Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of aircraft maintenance experience
  • Background as an A&P Mechanic, Aircraft Mechanic, or Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT)
Licensure
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Mechanic Certificate required
Skills
  • Strong knowledge of aircraft systems and aviation maintenance procedures
  • Interest in mentoring, coaching, and developing others
  • Ability to work in a structured, compliance-driven training environment
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint)
  • Flexibility to support evening or weekend schedules as needed
