Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs all levels of Preventative Maintenance Inspection on all DASH fleet vehicles.
• Performs all levels of repairs on all DASH vehicles, including diagnosing equipment.
• Requests and orders required parts for repairs and maintenance.
• Opens work-orders for all repairs or service / inspections.
• Test drives vehicles for verification of proper operation before and after service.
• Follows OEM procedures for maintenance/repairs.
• Reads and understands repair manuals and wiring schematics.
• Maintains knowledge of DOT requirements.
• Uses computer for work-orders and equipment lookup.
• Maintains clean and organized work area; assists other technicians when needed.
• Makes road or service calls as required.

The primary focus of the A Mechanic is preventative and proactive maintenance. Performs equipment maintenance by completing inspections, correcting vehicle deficiencies and performing vehicle maintenance to the Alexandria Transit Company standards. Examines maintenance and repair of equipment to manufacturer's guidelines to preserve the safety and reliability of all fleet. The salary for this role is $35.94 an hour, and includes a $2,500 sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

• Performs all levels of Preventative Maintenance Inspection on all DASH fleet vehicles.
• Performs all levels of repairs on all DASH vehicles, including diagnosing equipment for proper repairs.
• Requests and orders required parts for repairs and maintenance.
• Opens work-orders for all repairs or service / inspections.
• Test drives vehicles for verification of proper operation before and after service.
• Follows established procedures / OEM procedures for all maintenance/repairs.
• Works independently while performing job duties.
• Reads and understands repair manuals.
• Reads and understands wiring schematics.
• Maintains proper knowledge of compulsory DOT requirements.
• Daily use of computer for work-orders and looking up equipment information.
• Assists other technicians when necessary.
• Maintains working area cleanliness and organization meeting or exceeding the standards of the Company.
• Uses hand tools, pneumatic tools and hydraulic tools including ancillary shop equipment in the performance of job duties.
• Makes road calls or service calls.
• Responsible for correcting all aspects of vehicle deficiencies; makes adjustments and alignments, identifies worn and damaged parts; removing, repairing, adjusting, assembling or disassembling all units as necessary to complete repairs.
• Performs diagnostics to determine any malfunction and performs final operational check on vehicles to ensure the quality of repairs.
• Responsible for ensuring work orders are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
• Attends departmental meetings related to service area planning and improvements.

QualificationsKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Computer literate and able to interact with vehicle maintenance management technology.
• Knowledge of electrical wiring fundamentals.
• Ability to read manuals and schematics.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to make independent decisions within scope of responsibility.

Additional/Miscellaneous/Special Requirements:

• Possess or ability to obtain a Class B (Passenger and Air-Brake endorsement) Commercial Driver’s License with P endorsement within 60 days of hire.
• Must successfully complete and pass criminal background check upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
• Must successfully complete and pass drug screen testing upon hire and as regularly required by policy for position.
• Must have a basic set of maintenance shop tools (tool allowance is provided).

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Relevant technical school training is beneficial, but not required.
• Minimum three (3) years of diesel vehicle maintenance or mechanic experience required, Battery/electric vehicle experience preferred.
• Extensive experience may be considered in lieu of educational background.
