This is a temporary position for 1 year with no permanent status granted. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

  • CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $5,998 (Step 1) - $8,737 (Step 20) per month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position possesses strong technical expertise in HVAC, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems, with the ability to inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and repair complex equipment, instruments, and controls. They are skilled in performing preventative maintenance as well as major equipment overhauls, including disassembling, inspecting, repairing, reassembling, and testing systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Proficient in using specialized diagnostic instruments, the candidate can accurately identify and resolve mechanical and refrigeration issues while interpreting blueprints and specifications to install and maintain systems as needed. They demonstrate a commitment to maintaining detailed work records, adhering to all safety policies and procedures, and contributing to the reliable operation of campus facilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate is dependable, adaptable, and willing to support University functions, ceremonies, emergencies, and other operational needs as required.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to a high school diploma and journey-level installation, adjustment, maintenance, and repair of commercial and domestic refrigeration and air conditioning systems involving modulatory and safety controls, thermostats, humidifiers and duct stats as well as one year of experience in the installation and repair of central multi-zone air conditioning systems required.

Licenses / Certificates

CFC Universal Certificate required.

Valid California driver's license required. Employees that are required to operate motorized vehicles and/or use their personal vehicle more than once a month on University business are required to take a mandatory Defensive Driving course and enroll in the DMV Employee Pull Notice (EPN) Program.

Physical Summary

Heavy work - Job involves lifting more than 40 pounds. Approximately half of the incumbent's time will be spent walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, or climbing.

Additional Information

CSULB is not a sponsoring agency for staff and management positions (i.e. H-1B Visas).
