Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Manassas, Virginia, is seeking an AI/ML engineer to develop and integrate Generative AI tools for tactical and development systems. You will collaborate with design professionals and customers to deliver use-case solutions.

Required are a STEM degree and 1 year of AI/ML experience, with familiarity in RAG, LangChain, and MCP. Onsite work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary lab environment is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's in a software/CS/ML STEM field.
  • 1 year of relevant experience with AI agents and LLMs.
  • Familiarity with RAG and open-source agent libraries (LangChain, MCP).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate Generative AI tools into tactical and development systems.
  • Interface with developers, leadership, and customers to build tools for use cases.
  • Adapt AI tools for air-gapped environments.
  • Upgrade locally-hosted LLMs and related tooling.
  • Interface with GenAI tool users for support and feedback.
  • Build data pipelines to ingest data from various sources.

Be a part of the Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) Artificial Intelligence (AI) team. Work with our team as we develop cutting edge tools for our Navy customer through the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning capabilities into tactical systems.

In This Position You Will Be Responsible For
  • Development and integration of Generative AI tools into tactical and development systems
  • Interfacing with developers, program leadership, and customers to develop tools for specific use cases
  • Adapting AI tools for use in air gapped environments
  • Upgrading locally-hosted Large Language Models and the associated tools that leverage the LLM
  • Interfacing with users of GenAI tools to provide technical support and solicit feedback
  • Building data pipelines to ingest data from a variety of sources

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree is Software Engineering, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related STEM degree
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Experience with designing, developing, and/or maintaining AI agents and large language models
  • Familiarity with retrieval augmented generation (RAG) in AI agent workflows
  • Familiarity with open source agentic libraries and tools (LangChain, MCP, etc)
  • Active security clearance and willing to work onsite with our team in Manassas, VA in our advanced development lab
Desired Skills
  • Experience building Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) tools on custom datasets
  • Experience with developing, deploying, and maintaining MCP servers
  • Interest in optimizing AI agents and LLMs to drive deployment solutions
  • Experience with cloud, containers & modern AI tools (Docker, Kubernetes, etc)
  • Experience with production ML and High Performance Compute Development
  • Experience building and deploying tools for air-gapped and/or limited compute environments
  • Strong problem solving mindset: ability to develop create solutions to difficult problems often requiring integration of conflicting and, at times, ambiguous or incomplete data on a fast-paced schedule
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex design information, technical decision and issues to both highly technical and non-technical peers
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across organizations, collaborate with others, engage in constructive conflict, and manage interpersonal dynamics – not afraid to challenge the existing approach to solutions
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and dynamic multi-disciplinary environment
Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $91200.00 - $169400.00

  • Annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs may be offered depending on the position. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and can vary from year to year and are tied to a range of performance metrics.
  • For (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
