Description of Service Opportunity:
The 9th Grade Summer Program will give rising 9th graders the opportunity to have a 4-week orientation at the high school to learn about CRLS and be able to ask questions and meet current staff before their first day of school. Participants will learn about school clubs, support programs, curriculum/classes, navigating the campus, and Google Suite tools/applications. They will also meet other rising 9th graders through this program. Our hope is that they will feel welcome and part of the community before their first day of 9th grade.
Teachers will work under the leadership of the school administration team to design a Freshman Academy experience to support students' smooth transition to high school. Teachers will be expected to stay in contact with parents and caregivers frequently at the onset and throughout the program.
In coordination with the building administration & 9th Grade Summer Program Principal, support teachers will prepare and facilitate learning activities in one or more of the following areas: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and/or Community Building/Social Emotional Learning Skills.
Core content areas will focus on understanding and assessing students academic needs in preparation for the reopening of school. Community-building and social emotional learning skills instruction will be based on SEL curriculum ideas aligned with the Community Meeting model already embedded within each Learning Community. There will be individual check-ins and group meetings aimed at creating relationships prior to the start of the year.
The overall goal is to create a meaningful connection and relationship between students and educators/staff from the high school before the start of the 2025-26 school year.
MinimumRequirements:
The 9th Grade Summer Support Teacher must possess a commitment to equity and have demonstrated the ability to build relationships with and effectively engage students from diverse backgrounds representing diverse learning styles and grade levels. Appropriate certification and highly qualified status under ESSA regulations is required. Preference will be given to regularly appointed teacher(s) from Cambridge Public School District and teachers from the school site where they are currently employed.
Service agreement to be paid at the summer school teacher rate of $50/hour. Not to exceed $5,000 total (100 hours).

Please note that your hourly rate is dependent upon your collective bargaining agreement or individual hourly rate. If you are a non-exemptemployee and have worked more than 40 hours a week, you will be paid time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours.
