Job summary

Common Ground is seeking a 988 Crisis Specialist to provide remote crisis support to individuals contacting the National Suicide Prevention helpline. The role includes logging into helpline apps, responding to calls, texts, and chats, and coordinating with EMS or police when needed.

You will offer resources, use de-escalation techniques, and document interactions in required systems, while maintaining strict confidentiality. Training and nonprofit support are provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 6 months of work or volunteer experience in a mental health/crisis services field, or equivalent education/training.
  • At-home high speed internet on a private network.
  • A private, HIPAA compliant, dedicated office space.

Day in the Life
  • Provide crisis support to individuals contacting the National Suicide Prevention helpline and 988 helpline
    • Login to helpline applications
    • Respond to incoming contacts of varying crisis nature. Communication may include calls, text, and/or chat
    • Offer information on available resources like homeless shelters, food pantries, mental health services, substance use treatment facilities, etc.
    • Employ de-escalation techniques to assist individuals in crisis
    • Coordinate with EMS or police to complete active rescue as needed
    • Communicate effectively with individuals in real time while simultaneously documenting the interaction accurately in required systems.
    • Conduct follow-ups to ensure successful access to services
    • Collaborate with Shift Supervisors and other crisis line staff to provide or receive support
    • Maintain high level confidentiality while performing all duties
    • Uphold strict confidentiality in all tasks performed
