About the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center:
The Grand Junction Regional Communication Center (GJRCC) serves multiple highly-respected law enforcement and fire/EMS agencies that use state-of-the-art equipment and modern tactical response techniques to provide the highest level of service to the citizens of Mesa County, Colorado.

You’ll be part of a team of professionals who work to improve the lives of those in their community. We are an IAED ACE-accredited center, and our training program is APCO-certified through the Agency Training Program Certification, and we work with national and state professional associations to equip us to serve our citizens. Finally, the GJRCC values its employees by providing paid training, a supportive culture, and opportunities for professional development and career advancement.

Duties

What You'll Do:
As the first contact point with the public via the 911 and non-emergent telephone and text lines, the 911 Dispatcher must obtain information from callers who are requesting police, fire, ambulance, and other emergency services.

Typical duties include:

  • Answering emergent and non-emergent calls for service while simultaneously recording information.
  • Calming, negotiating, advising, and otherwise communicating with the caller to obtain the necessary information to determine both the nature of the call as well as what resources to send.
  • Coordinating and relaying information and assistance requests to the appropriate law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical service agency.
Qualifications

This position is a safety sensitive position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.

What We're Looking For:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Type 3,000 kph (50 wpm).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good moral character, judgment, and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including day, swing, graveyard, holidays, and weekends as assigned.
  • Ability to work required overtime when necessary.
  • Ability to pass a background investigation that meets all local, state, and federal requirements.

Recruitment Timeline:

*Please note that each step is contingent upon successful completion of the prior step. This is a tentative timeline that is subject to change.

  • Oral board interviews will start the week of August 18, 2024, the last week of oral board interviews will be September 8, 2024.
  • Executive interview dates tentatively scheduled the weeks of:
    • November 10th
  • All final offers for the December 2024 Academy will be tentatively extended no later than December 2, 2024 (earlier applicants could receive final offers prior to this date).
  • 911 Dispatcher Academy is scheduled to begin the week of December 15, 2024.
