Job summary

Bernalillo County is seeking an Emergency Communications Operator I. Under direct supervision, you will answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls and dispatch law enforcement, fire, rescue and EMS units.

You will provide pre-arrival instructions and update responding personnel with current information. You will access information systems such as NCIC, NLETS, NMLETS, WITS, CAD, and NM DMV files, and provide concise information to units and the public.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year related experience or 6 months in emergency communications/radio dispatching.
  • Typing at 40 wpm.
  • Knowledge of FCC radio procedures.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Clear verbal and written English communication.
  • Ability to learn radio/CAD codes and operate communications center equipment.
  • Ability to learn the County's geographic area.
  • Ability to interact with TDD communications.

Responsibilities

  • Answer 9-1-1 and non-emergency calls accurately and promptly.
  • Dispatch units for law enforcement, fire, and EMS.
  • Enter and maintain unit location/status records.
  • Provide pre-arrival EMS/EFD instructions.
  • Access and use NCIC, NLETS, NMLETS, WITS, CAD, and NM DMV files.
  • Provide timely information to units and the public.
  • Collaborate with team members as needed.
