Responsibilities

  • Interview consumers and involved persons to gather data for assessing mental health conditions.
  • Develop service plans with consumers and assess multiple domains of need.
  • Coordinate with psychiatrists, psychologists, and staff to design treatment plans.
  • Explain mental illnesses and psychosocial effects to families and consumers.
  • Assist in choosing treatment options for clients and families.
  • Initiate individual, collateral, group, and family therapy sessions.
  • Maintain contact with local mental health resources and agencies.
  • Handle specialized tasks including 5150 decisions and Tarasoff assessments.
  • Participate in conferences and committees related to mental health.
  • Prepare reports and write correspondence; guide volunteers and staff.
  • Act as a casework consultant to clinicians and departmental staff.
  • Licensed level may supervise unlicensed clinicians within licensure.
  • Coordinate clinical decisions in response to operational demands.
  • Discuss difficult cases and respond to emergencies within licensure.
  • Ensure smooth flow of information for continuity of treatment.
  • Serve as liaison with other sections, units, services, and agencies.
