Job summary

Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law invites individuals to apply for an Assistant Professor of Legal Research and Writing. The position is full-time, non-tenure-track, nine-month and begins in August 2027.

The LRW program covers two foundational courses for all first-year J.D. students. The role includes teaching LRW I in the fall and LRW II in the spring, plus one additional course or activity as directed, along with service obligations to the law school and university.

Qualifications

• Requires a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Two years of experience practicing law or teaching legal writing to lawyers or law students preferred.
• Outstanding communication, organizational, and analytical skills; commitment to academic excellence; collegial work with faculty, colleagues, and students.
• Ideal candidate should mentor students and contribute to the law school and university community.

Responsibilities

• Teach LRW I and LRW II for two sections each year.
• Contribute to one additional course or activity as directed.
• Perform service obligations such as committee work within the law school and university.
