Job summary

Sylvania in Illinois is seeking an 8th Grade Science Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. The role starts around February 5, 2027 and runs approximately 12 weeks through April 30, 2027, delivering instruction in a general education classroom.

Qualifications

• Valid Illinois PEL with Science endorsement appropriate for the assignment.
• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred.
• Middle school teaching experience preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging 8th Grade Science instruction aligned to grade-level standards and established classroom plans.
• Support and differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs.
• Monitor and assess student progress.
• Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and structured classroom environment.
• Implement classroom routines, procedures, and expectations.
• Collaborate with grade-level colleagues, support staff, and administration.
• Communicate appropriately with students, families, and staff.
• Maintain accurate student records and complete required documentation.
• Participate in professional development, meetings, and school activities as appropriate.
• Support the District's educational philosophy, goals, and student achievement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
