Job summary

Southview Middle School in Ankeny, Iowa, is seeking an Assistant Coach for the 8th Grade boys basketball team. The position supports the head coach in organizing practices, developing players, and preparing the team for competition, while ensuring compliance with district, conference, and state rules and regulations.

The role involves mentoring student-athletes, coordinating with staff, and promoting sportsmanship and safety throughout the season.

Qualifications

Valid coaching license through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners or the ability to obtain it prior to the start of the season.
Previous coaching experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, instruct, and supervise student-athletes and a coaching staff.
Ability to work under pressure and remain calm.

Responsibilities

Attend and effectively coach in all scheduled games as determined by relevant athletic associations.
Collaborate with the head coach in developing off-season programs and opportunities for student athletes.
Assist with instructional strategies, practice organization, and supervision guidelines to develop the program at all levels.
Teach and promote athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.
Be present for practices and assess student performance to provide feedback.
