Job Summary

Performs a wide range of clerical, receptionist, dispatching, and admitting/discharge duties to support the assigned patient care department.

Minimum Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
  1. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school preferred.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

The following are general responsibilities; other duties may be assigned:

  1. Greeting and admitting patients upon arrival.
  2. Completing admitting information in the computer.
  3. Locating and assigning beds.
  4. Notifying physicians of admissions as requested.
  5. Communicating transfer information when patients move within the hospital.
  6. Handling discharge functions, including disassembling patient records and scheduling follow-up appointments.
  7. Arranging transportation for patients.
  8. Completing discharge documentation and faxing summaries.
  9. Maintaining communication within and between departments for efficient operations.
  10. Answering phones and intercom courteously and promptly.
  11. Welcoming visitors and assisting with inquiries.
  12. Providing information about patient or department routines, following hospital policies.
  13. Entering physician orders into the EPIC system accurately and timely.
  14. Generating and distributing medical records and documents.
  15. Scheduling lab work, diagnostic procedures, and forwarding documents.
  16. Maintaining accurate patient and department records.
  17. Preparing patient identification bands and charts accurately.
  18. Monitoring inventory of office supplies.
  19. Collecting and recording laboratory results and notifying RNs of abnormal findings.
  20. Coordinating transportation and communication between departments.
  21. Dispatching personnel for patient transport as needed.
  22. Ensuring accurate documentation and record keeping.
