Job description

Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school, seeks a Full-Time 7th and 8th Grade History Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. This position is based on the Washington, DC campus and begins in August 2025.

Reporting to the Middle School Principal, the History Teacher will teach 7th grade United States history and 8th grade World history. Responsibilities include advising students, writing reports, effective communication with students, colleagues, and families, attending meetings, and supervising recess and lunch. Other duties related to the position may be assigned.

Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in History or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level.
  • Deep understanding of United States history, politics, culture, and ancient civilizations.
  • Ability to teach analytical writing, critical thinking, and research skills.
  • Ability to inspire and support students, work collaboratively, and thrive in an environment committed to academic excellence.
  • Appreciation for young adolescents and a sense of humor.
  • Position requires in-person teaching.
  • Active CPR certification or ability to obtain one by the start date.
Salary
  • Range: $62,096 - $136,496, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
