Job summary

Pasadena Independent School District seeks a SpEd ATP Aide Plus to support students with disabilities during the transition from high school to postsecondary settings. You will assist teachers, prepare instructional materials, and help with program management.

Under supervision, you will ensure daily operations align with IEP goals, assist with mobility and community activities, and support in documentation and data collection while maintaining confidentiality.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.
  • PAC Test (No Child Left Behind) and 48 college hours.
  • Bilingual test may be required if applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist teacher by preparing instructional materials and activities.
  • Support re-teaching IEP goals and objectives under supervision.
  • Maintain inventory and care of equipment used in class.
  • Maintain classroom records and prepare required reports.
  • Assist substitute teachers with orientation and tasks.
  • Help manage Adult Transition Program activities and schedule.

Primary Purpose

Participate as a member of the Special Education Adult Transition Services Program and provide overall support and training to students with disabilities as they transition from the high school setting to their post secondary setting. Work under general supervision of executive director for special education and immediate direction of a certified special education teacher.

Qualification
Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
  • PAC Test (No Chid Left Behind) / 48 College Hours
  • Bilingual Test (if applicable)
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of general office equipment
Experience
  • Two years experience working with children
Major Responsibilities And Duties
Instructional Support
  • Assist teacher by preparing instructional materials.
  • Assist teacher in re‑teaching IEP related goals and objectives.
  • Assist teacher with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining administrative records (data collection) and preparing required reports.
  • Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
  • Assist teacher in routine Adult Transition Program management duties.
  • Assist in orienting students to their Adult Transition Program schedule and/or supervising/shadowing students in the community setting Student Management.
  • Be aware of student's various medical concerns, condition.
  • Assist students with physical disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 35 lbs.
  • Assist students with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist teacher in managing behavior of students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.
  • Assist supervising students throughout the school day including community settings.
  • Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Uphold and enforce school district rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.
  • Assist VOCEX program as demands are presented.
  • Produce weekly master schedule for Job Coaches.
  • Be responsible for Spanish written correspondence.
  • Maintain the Potential Employer Database.
  • Assist with ATS research topics for training purposes.
  • Be the Community Liaison for potential employers.
  • Collect data for Indicator 14.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal); maintain emotional control under stress; interpret policy, procedures, and data, coordinate district functions.

Physical Demands/Environment Factors

Frequent standing, stooping, bending, and kneeling, pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students, equipment, and materials. Biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.
