Job summary

Frontier School Corporation in Indiana is seeking a school bus driver to transport students safely to designated routes on an as-needed basis. You will conduct daily safety inspections, load and unload students, and maintain order on the bus.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, a valid Indiana CDL, and the ability to pass required physicals and tests. Candidates should be reliable, able to work independently, and follow state traffic and school procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Must hold a valid Indiana CDL.
• Must meet State Department of Transportation physical requirements.
• No use of narcotics or excessive alcohol.
• Good physical and mental ability to operate a school bus.

Responsibilities

• Pick up and discharge students on schedule, following laws and safety rules.
• Maintain order and discipline on the bus and report issues as needed.
• Perform daily safety inspections of buses and report malfunctions.
• Collaborate to establish stops and transportation schedules.
• Update routes and communicate changes to guardians and supervisor.
• Keep buses clean and safe at all times.
• Assist students with wheelchair lifts when required.
• Operate two-way radio to communicate with administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator.

Job description

Drive a school bus to transport students safely and efficiently to assigned locations along designated routes on an as needed basis.

Interested parties must:

• 1.Obtain a Department of Transportation Physical (Cost reimbursed by Frontier School Corporation)
• 2.Enroll and successfully complete 4 day Pre-Service Class through the Indiana Department of Education
• 3.Obtain a Blue Card
• 4.Successfully pass a Physical Fitness Test
• 5.Complete four (4) hours of observation with a school bus driver holding a yellow card
• 6.Complete eight (8) hours of driving with a school bus driver holding a yellow card
• 7.Pass the written test for CDL at Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV)
• 8.Pass the Skills Test at Department of Transportation testing site.

Essential Functions:

• 1. Pick up and discharge students in accordance with established time lines; observe legal and defensive driving practices in all weather elements and road conditions.
• 2. Maintain order and discipline among passengers on the bus; report behavior issues ot appropriate personnel and assure student understanding of bus rules.
• 3. Conduct required daily safety inspections of buses; inspect interior, exterior and engine of buses to assure safe operational condition; report mechanical malfunctions or other problems as needed.
• 4. Collaborate with departmental supervisor or administrator in establishing and maintaining student bus stops and transportation schedules.
• 5. Maintain and update routes sheets; contact parents or guardians to establish route pick-up or delivery times as assigned; notify appropriate supervisor of changes in routes.
• 6. Maintain buses in a clean and safe operating condition.
• 7. Load and unload students as required; utilize and assist students with wheelchair lifts as needed.
• 8. Operate a two-way radio to communicate with Superintendent Office personnel.
• 9. Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

Qualifications:

Any combination equivalent to:

• 1. Graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to perform assignened duties.
• 2. Incumbents must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the state of Indiana.
• 3. Candidates and employees meet State Department of Transportation physical requirements.
• 4. Candidates must abstain from narcotic drug use and excessive drinking.
• 5. Candidates must have sufficient physical and mental abilities to operate a school bus in a safe manner.
