EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be evaluated by the building principal/athletic director/principal's designee and in accordancewith WV State Board Policy 5310, and HCBOEPolicy

JOB SUMMARY:The person employed for this position must be able to teach the fundamentalsofthesportandinstillgoodsportsmanshipbehaviorsintheparticipants. Additionally, adherence to WVSSAC rules and regulations as well as school and district policies is required.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

ProfessionalandInterpersonalRelations:Communicateswitheducationalpersonnel, parents, students, and others. Items that may be used to reflect professional and interpersonal relations:

  • Cooperateswithbuildingprincipal.

  • Developsrapportwithcoachingstaffwithintheschool.
  • Adherestothedirectivesoftheheadcoach.
  • Developspositiverelationshipwithparticipants,studentbody,faculty,parentsand community, game officials, news media, and opponents.
  • Employsappropriateconductduringgamesandpractices.
  • Attendsleague,conferenceandWVSSACmeetings.
  • Participateinactivitiesthatfosterprofessionalgrowthanddevelopment.
  • Motivatesstaffandplayerstowarddesiredgoals.
  • Commandsrespectbyexampleinappearance,manners,behaviorand language. Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Read,interpret, applyand explainrules,regulations,policies andprocedures.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people, establish and maintain a working relationship with students, coaches and other college administrators.

  • Checkeligibilityofparticipants,includinginsurancecoverageandparent consent.
  • Providestudentsaproperrolemodel,emotionalsupport,patience,afriendly attitude and general guidance.
  • Conductlearningexperiences,withsmallgroupsofstudent athletes.
  • Recommendthepurchaseofequipment,suppliesanduniformsasappropriatefor the health, safety and welfare of student athletes.
  • Performrelateddutiesasassigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

ValidWestVirginiateachingcertificatelicensing;or WVDEsubstitute permit; or high school diploma or GED.

Must hold a valid CPR/AED certification.

CoachesthatarenotprofessionalteachersarerequiredtocompletetheWVSSACTrainingand Certification Program.
