Job summary

Tacoma Public Schools seeks a 6th Grade Social Studies teacher on a replacement contract for the 2026-2027 school year. The role requires a valid WA state teaching certificate endorsed in Elementary Education K-8 and/or Social Studies, with duties centered on planning, instruction, assessment, and classroom management.

Position starts as soon as possible, 1.0 FTE, 7.5 hours per day, with the TEA contract salary range and full benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited university with appropriate educational endorsement.
• Valid Washington State teaching certificate.

Responsibilities

• Develops, plans and strategizes a program of study that meets student needs and creates a conducive learning environment.
• Assesses student growth and provides progress reports; maintains grades as required.
• Implements district education goals; supports classroom behavior management and policy adherence.
• Prepares differentiated lessons with clear objectives; aligns materials to learning targets.
• Maintains open communication with students, parents and staff; conducts conferences as needed.
