Job summary

Waukee Community School District North Middle School seeks a 6th Grade Assistant Director for Play to lead student actors and production crews. The role collaborates with the Director to select plays, plan rehearsals, and coordinate production elements within facility constraints.

Responsibilities

• With Director, determine which play best fits student performers and production team.
• With Director, create and communicate rehearsal and production schedules in coordination with production staff; ensure attendance for all calls.
• Participate in regular production meetings with Director, Technical Director, and Performing Arts Center Manager (and student leaders when possible).
• Determine projected production needs including scenic, costuming, props, lighting, sound, and publicity in collaboration with the Director.
• Prepare audition materials in collaboration with other production staff.
• Conduct auditions and callbacks with the Director.
• Cast the show with the Director.
• Collaborate to assign student production team roles with staff input.
• Train student stage managers and production team on roles, responsibilities, safety, and facility orientation.
• Design and oversee technical theatre needs (scenic, costumes, props, lighting, sound, publicity, front of house) within budget.
• Conduct rehearsals and block portions of the show as directed by the Director.
• Develop publicity branding, logos, posters, and programs with staff; supervise distribution of materials.
• Coordinate publicity efforts with the district Communications Department.
• Supervise students from first call to post-show duties for each tech and dress rehearsal and performance.
• Strike the show after final performance with staff and Performing Arts Center Manager; return rented materials as applicable
