TITLE: TN - CNC Programmer / Mold Maker

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Performs mold design, repair activities, and continuous improvements related to the maintenance, repairs, and new designs of injection molds, jigs, fixtures, and related equipment. Builds complex tooling components from standard prints using metalworking equipment and CAD software.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED; some college preferred. 5-7 years of experience in plastic injection molds, with at least 5 years on CNC equipment such as CNC mills, lathes, EDMs; and 5 years using CNC programming software like Unigraphics or SolidWorks.
  • Dependable attendance and flexibility for non-standard work hours.
  • Ability to manage job-related stress and foster positive workplace interactions.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee daily CNC machine operations.
  • Identify machining operations, determine sequence, and calculate material removal and manufacturing time.
  • Coordinate with management and tooling personnel to develop production and design standards.
  • Review project schedules based on production plans and specifications.
  • Design mold layouts and components using CAD/CAM software for efficiency.
  • Program CNC tool paths and tool changes using MasterCam and SolidWorks.
  • Redesign mold components to enhance efficiency and durability.
  • Redesign final molded products during product development.
  • Perform reverse engineering to create electronic data bases.
  • Train peers in basic CNC operations.
  • Create and update CNC files for new components.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, extreme heat, and occasional vibration.
  • Noise levels are high; hearing PPE required.
