Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must perform ASME & AWS Code weld tests on pipe and plate using four welding processes.
  • Maintain a minimum of 95% acceptability in NDE tests.
  • Mentor less experienced welders.

Responsibilities

  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine material locations and sizes.
  • Bolt aligned steel members for riveting, bolting, or welding.
  • Fasten steel members to hoist cables using chains, cables, or rope.
  • Hoist beams and girders using cranes or signal operators.
  • Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using appropriate tools.
  • Position and weld components to final positions with proper tools.
  • Load and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting.
  • Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging per instructions.
  • Fabricate metal parts per blueprints or supervisor guidance.
  • Dismantle structures or equipment as needed.
  • Weld separators, absorbers, piping and vessels.
  • Perform x-ray welds and quality checks.
  • Lay out and secure parts using measuring tools.
  • Tack-weld or weld components using various welding equipment.
  • Cut workpieces using powered saws or hand tools.
  • Melt lead to add to joints as required.
  • Install or repair equipment and piping as needed.
  • Observe tests on welded surfaces and evaluate weld quality.

This position is located in Casper, WY at our JW Williams facility. The role requires on-site work in the shop. Candidates must live in Casper or within a reasonable commuting distance. Westerman, Inc. does not offer relocation assistance; relocation expenses are the candidate’s responsibility.

Summary

The Welder is responsible for setting up and operating advanced welding equipment, eliminating scrap and downtime, repairing defective products, and ensuring high quality standards. The role is safety-sensitive and requires self-motivation and strong work ethic.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Read specifications or blueprints to determine locations, quantities, or sizes of materials.
  • Bolt aligned structural steel members for riveting, bolting, or welding.
  • Fasten structural steel members to hoist cables using chains, cables, or rope.
  • Hoist steel beams, girders, or columns using cranes or signal equipment operators.
  • Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
  • Force steel components into final positions with turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, or hand tools.
  • Pull, push, or pry steel components into approximate positions for bolting.
  • Unload and position prefabricated steel units for hoisting.
  • Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging such as cables, pulleys, or hooks.
  • Fabricate metal parts (frames, columns, beams, girders) per blueprints or supervisor instructions.
  • Dismantle structures or equipment.
  • Weld separators, glycol absorbers, piping, large and heavy wall vessels, and flow coils.
  • Perform quality x-ray welds consistently.
  • Weld low-pressure products such as heaters, reboilers, glycol coolers, liquid accumulators, building skids, and natural draft combustors.
  • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
  • Tack-weld or weld components using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
  • Cut workpiece using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
  • Melt lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or extrude melted scrap.
  • Install or repair equipment such as lead pipes, valves, floors, and tank linings.
  • Observe tests on welded surfaces (hydrostatic, x-ray) and evaluate weld quality.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances with micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Perform single-hand welding and pipe fitting.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Attention to detail and ability to make clean lines and cuts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints; understand final product appearance.
  • Identify flaws in welds or structural imperfections.
  • Determine required tools and equipment.
  • Conduct tests and inspections to evaluate quality.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and assess when needed.
  • Knowledge of properties and characteristics of metals and welding fluxes.
  • Knowledge of safety precautions for occupational hazards.
  • Skill in identifying proper power and hand tools and using them safely.
