NDT Global Desert Ndt, LLC seeks an experienced Advanced NDT / PAUT Technician (Level II) for a 4-month contract in Newport News, VA. The role demands performing high-volume PAUT inspections on heavy components, with 10-12 hour shifts and significant OT.

You will calibrate PAUT equipment, interpret data in real time, and document findings in clear reports. Must meet Level II PAUT certs and pass background checks, with shipyard/defense experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Certification: Level II PAUT per SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, or NAS-410 standards.
• Must provide verifiable high school diploma/GED and PAUT training hours (80+ hrs) and logged OJT hours.
• Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard flaw detectors (Olympus Evident MX2/X3, Zetec TOPAZ) and encoder setups.
• Ability to pass pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical/vision test.

Responsibilities

• Perform PAUT inspections on welds, plates, and structural components to identify subsurface defects and anomalies.
• Calibrate, maintain, and set up PAUT equipment, encoders, wedges, and probes.

40 Hour guarantee | Average 60 hours per week (10-12 hour shifts, including overtime)

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Level II Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) Technician for a 4-month contract engagement in Newport News, VA. The successful candidate will perform advanced non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections on heavy structural components, piping, and welds in accordance with industry codes (AWS, ASME, NAVSEA, or API).

This role requires a high-volume work tempo, heavy overtime, and precise data collection using advanced phased array equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform PAUT inspections on welds, plates, and structural components to identify subsurface discontinuities, defects, and structural anomalies.
• Calibrate, maintain, and set up advanced PAUT equipment, encoders, wedges, and probes.
• Acquire, interpret, and evaluate encoded PAUT data in real time against strict client specifications and applicable codes.
• Prepare and submit comprehensive, clear, and timely NDT inspection reports documenting findings.
• Collaborate closely with site quality control managers, structural engineers, and welding inspectors.
• Maintain compliance with site safety policies, confined space rules, and proper PPE protocols.

Work Schedule & Working Conditions:

Contract Duration: 4 months.

Hours: Approximately 60 hours per week (Expect 5 to 6 days per week, 10-12 hours per shift).

Environment: Industrial fabrication shop / shipyard facility setting. Must be capable of working at heights, in tight or confined spaces, and carrying up to 50 lbs of inspection gear.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Certification: Level II PAUT Certification meeting SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, or NAS-410 standards.
• Documentation: Must be able to provide verifiable high school diploma/GED, classroom training hours (80+ hours PAUT), and logged OJT hours.
• Equipment Experience: Hands-on proficiency with industry-standard flaw detectors (e.g., Olympus/Evident OmniScan MX2/X3, Zetec TOPAZ, or similar) and encoder setups.
• Background Check & Screening: Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical/vision test (Jaeger 1 / Color Vision).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in shipyard manufacturing, defense contracting, or heavy marine fabrication.
• Active security clearance or DBIDS badge eligibility for regional naval/defense facilities.
• Supplemental NDT Certifications: MT, PT, VT, or TOFD Level II.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Overtime: 1.5x base rate for all hours worked over 40 hours per week.
• Weekly direct deposit pay schedule.
