Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a dedicated Substitute Teacher to support students in a part-time, on-site capacity. The role requires maintaining classroom order, delivering prepared lessons, and ensuring continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular teacher.

Reports to the Principal and requires a valid Alabama Substitute Teacher License, high school diploma, and background clearance. After ten days in the same assignment, duties may convert toward long-term responsibilities

Qualifications

  • Completed Background Clearance.
  • Related experience preferred.
  • Alabama Substitute Teacher License required.

Responsibilities

  • Assume duties of the regular classroom teacher promptly and in accordance with school rules.
  • Implement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time.
  • Instruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics/courses of instruction.
  • Assign tasks and homework according to lesson plans.
  • Create a learning environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Address diverse learning styles as needed.
  • Maintain classroom safety and discipline in line with policies.
  • Ensure supervision for health, welfare, and safety of students.
  • Protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Remain in classroom and monitor students at all times.
  • Do not leave students unattended in the classroom.
  • Report injuries, accidents, illness, and discipline issues.

Job Goal:

To encourage student progress, and manage the learning environment in the absence of the full-time teacher

Job Function and Responsibilities:
  • Assume duties of the regular classroom teacher promptly and in accordance with school rules
  • Implement existing lesson plans in a manner that ensures the integrity of academic time, and motivates students to learn and participate
  • Instruct students regarding a variety of classroom topics/courses of instruction, as determined by the classroom teacher's lesson plans
  • Assign reasonable tasks and homework to students in accordance with the classroom teacher's lesson plans
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Address the various learning styles of students accordingly
  • Maintain classroom control that fosters a safe, positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with i3 Academy policies and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Ensure adequate supervision of students and classroom environment to assure health, welfare, and safety of students
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Remain in classroom and monitor students at all times
  • Ensure that the students are never left unattended in the classroom
  • Report student injury, accidents, illness, and discipline problems to school personnel immediately
  • Seek assistance If serious or disruptive student behavior problems occur
  • Report to school office at beginning of school day to pick up required materials and schedule of classes, and at the end of the school day to return materials
  • Follow sign- in and sign out procedures, as prescribed by the school principal
  • Interact in a cooperative and professional manner with students, parents, and school personnel
  • Maintain student and school personnel confidentiality
  • Use proper discipline techniques so that there is never physical contact with a student
  • Conduct assigned classes at the times scheduled
  • Enforce regulations concerning student conduct and discipline
  • Be punctual with all duties
  • Usescomputers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials as appropriate to supplement presentation of lessons
  • Maintain current contact information on tile with the Human Resource Department
Note:

After ten (10) days in the SAME teaching assignment, the role changes into a long-term assignment. From day eleven (11) in the SAME assignment, assuming all responsibilities of the teaching role, until the end of the assignment, the pay shall be doubled that of the daily rate of pay for a substitute teacher. At that point, the job description becomes that of full time teacher including but not limited to the responsibility to develop lesson plans; devise, administer, and grade tests and assignments; participate in parent-teacher conferences; perform assigned duties, and attend school-related functions.

  • See on a continuous basis within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
  • Hear on a continuous basis within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
  • Speak frequently and clearly
  • Transition from various positions: standing, sitting, walking, kneeling or crouching. On a rare occasion it may be necessary to move quickly, walk/run in a drill or emergency situation
  • Reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
  • Agility to operate computer and other digital hardware
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers for word processing

  • Academic and professional for all ages
  • Primarily indoors with varying temperatures
  • Noise level is generally moderate
