Job summary

Boone County Schools is seeking a Cafeteria Worker/Cook - Full-Time to support our Boone County High School cafeteria. The role involves preparing meals, following approved recipes, and maintaining a clean, efficient kitchen environment.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, basic math skills, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Experience with school food service equipment and quantity cooking is preferred.

Qualifications

• Has a high school diploma or GED certificate.
• Certification as a school food service employee by the Division of School Food Service is desired.
• Basic math skills for recipe calculations and portioning.
• Ability to lift and move objects weighing at least 50 pounds several times per day.
• Neat, clean appearance and work habits.
• Ability to read and follow written directions and recipes.
• Experience operating cafeteria equipment (cash register, slicer, mixer, steamer, fryer, dishwasher, ovens, etc.).
• Training/experience in quantity cooking is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Familiarize with written guidelines and supervisor directions.
• Check food shipments into the school and verify invoices.
• Review daily menus, adjust recipes for correct food amounts.
• Prepare food per planned menu and tested recipes.
• Maintain quality in flavor and appearance before serving.
• Record food withdrawn from storage.
• Store or dispose of unused foods properly.
• Assist in major and daily kitchen cleaning.
• Help collect money for meals and beverages sold.
• Move equipment, supplies and furniture as needed.
• Report problems to the Cafeteria Manager.
• Assist in ordering supplies and cover manager duties when absent.
• Attend in-service trainings and workshops.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance Responsibilities

• Be familiar with written guidelines, policies, procedures, and directions from supervisor related to job responsibilities
• Check food shipments into school, signing invoices only after each order has been verified
• Check daily menus with manager and work out recipes for correct food amounts
• Prepare food according to planned menu and tested recipes
• Assure that food is of best quality in flavor and appearance before it is served
• Record all food withdrawn from storage
• Assure that unused foods are properly stored or disposed of
• Perform major cleaning at regularly scheduled intervals as designated by manager
• Assist in daily cleaning of kitchen
• Assist in collecting money for meals and beverages sold
• Move equipment, supplies and furniture as required for area of responsibility
• Report immediately any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen to the Manager Cafeteria
• Report to manager any faulty or inferior quality food which is received
• Assist manager in ordering supplies
• Assume manager duties in manager's absence
• Attend in-service training or workshops
• Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the supervisor
