4 th Grade Reading/Social Studies Teacher

The Lexington School is seeking a teaching professional who has experience inspiring and engaging young minds for the 2025-2026 school year. Essential Responsibilities:

Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:

• Strong and frequent collaboration with the 4th grade team, particularly the Language Arts teacher

• Teach area of specialty to students, utilizing course of study adopted by The Lexington School

• Serve as Student Advisor to work with students as they develop as whole people, fostering development in the mission skills of the school

• Supervise students during field trips, school, and other events

  • Experiential learning is an integral part of the TLS experience, and travel on overnight trips is an expectation for faculty members

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials to provide individualized and small group instruction and adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student

• Maintain lesson plans and pacing schedules as part of curriculum mapping

• Use a variety of instructional strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, etc. to facilitate higher-level thinking development

• Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional and positive learning atmosphere in the classroom

• Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports and report cards

• Communicate with parents through conferences, phone calls, and e-mail to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program

• Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, behavioral, and learning challenges

• Maintain professional competence through professional growth activities

• Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day, such as recess, lunch, and breaks

• Participate in grade level, division, and full faculty meetings, and serve on school committees as required

• Attend divisional and school-wide required events (e.g., prep-planning, Open Houses, conferences, etc.)

• Present a positive image of The Lexington School to the outside community, including social networking sites

• Other duties as assigned by the Head of Lower School or Head of School.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or pertinent subject area from accredited university required; Masters or other advanced degree preferred

• Teaching experience in an elementary school or work with elementary school-aged children preferred

Supervision:

Directly reports to the Lower School Division Head

This is a full-time, 10-month teaching position, effective July 1, 2025.
