Job summary

ApplicantPool is seeking a detail-oriented accounting professional to support auditing, purchasing, inventory, budgeting and accounts payable in a government setting.

The role requires strong MS Office skills, GAAP knowledge, and clear communication with department heads and vendors. Governmental accounting exposure is preferred, with at least two years of related experience.

This position emphasizes accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to multi-task in a busy government office environment.

Qualifications

  • High school education with accounting or bookkeeping training.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above duties may be acceptable.
  • Exposure to governmental accounting and auditing preferred.
  • Some college preferred but not required.
  • Unquestionably good moral character and intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Commissioners Court and County Auditor by preparing, coordinating, copying and distributing documents for court.
  • Reviews, verifies, and inputs vendor invoices into the financial system, ensuring proper general ledge coding and authorization for payment.
  • Prepares, processes and monitors vendor payments, checks, and electronic fund transfers (EFT/ACH) to maintain timely disbursements.
  • Reconciles vendor statements, research discrepancies or past-due accounts, and assist with month-end and year-end financial closing.
  • Maintains accurate, organized files of invoices, W-9 vendor accounts, payment records, and related correspondence.
  • Serves as a point of contact for department heads and vendors regarding account statuses and payment inquiries.
  • Examines accounting source documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with departmental and state rules, regulations and agreements.
  • Maintain regular attendance during assigned work schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to include but not limited to accounts payable, credit card transactions, purchasing, internal auditing, cash audits, and administrative functions.

Summary of Responsibilities:

This position performs various duties revolving around financial functions to include auditing, purchasing, inventory, budgeting and accounts payable.

Essential Responsibilities and Functions:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and business software to include accounting systems, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in a businesslike manner both orally and written.
  • Ability to multi-task and adapt to a busy work environment. Attention to detail is critical and must be able to maintain focus in situations where many interruptions may occur.
  • Ability to analyze and perform accurate data entry and mathematical and account calculations.
  • Ability to act in a manner to maintain confidentiality of records and issues which may be encountered.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, vendors, other agencies and County officials and the public.
