The City Library in Brownsville, TX is seeking a part-time Maintenance Worker I to assist with grounds care at the Main Branch. The role covers sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting and related tasks under direct supervision.
Minimum education is a high school diploma or GED with no experience required. Valid Texas driver’s license is needed and physical effort is required for outdoor maintenance and equipment operation.
The Maintenance Worker I will assist in the landscape or maintenance of City's grounds. The class will perform a variety of tasks, which include any combination of sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, digging and related maintenance tasks. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.
High school or GED (no experience), or sufficient education to read and write with no experience.
Valid Texas Driver's License.
Minimal judgment; instructions, once established and defined, normally allow the job to be accomplished without direct and/or constant supervision; mostly routine work requiring that employee recognize obvious problems.
Low chance for error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: not demanded to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor.

Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; use of a City vehicle.
Frequent exposure to outdoor elements (several times per week).
