Job summary

BVH, Inc. is seeking an electrical helper to shadow a journeyman, learn blueprints, and assist in wiring and installation tasks on a busy construction site.

You will gain hands-on experience with electrical systems, safety processes, and plan interpretation, while supporting the crew and ensuring quality workmanship.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of electrician experience and knowledge of wiring, conduit, and NEC basics.
• Must hold necessary licenses for the jurisdiction of work and have required tools.
• Pre-employment checks including background, drug screen, and MVR as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Shadow a journeyman electrician, learn to read plans and inspect systems.
• Assist with installing and wiring activities under supervision.
• Use hand and power tools carefully to measure, cut and install wiring and conduit.
• Help with repairs such as replacing fuses, sockets, bulbs and switches.
• Maintain and organize tools, materials and supplies on site.
• Follow safety procedures and participate in pre-job planning and safety discussions.
• Communicate effectively with team and report hazards or incidents.

Job Summary

Shadow one of our electricians and help them with their tasks. Learn to read blueprints, diagnose electrical problems, and repair electrical systems. Assist with installing new electrical systems. Assist journeyman in the planning, lay‑out, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment, and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist a journeyman electrician and follow instructions.
• Learn to use appropriate hand and power tools (e.g., drill, screwdriver, pipe threader, conduit bender) to properly assist electrician in performing duties, including measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit; drilling holes for wiring; pulling wiring through openings; assisting in lifting, positioning, and fastening objects such as wiring, conduit, and motors.
• Perform minor repairs, such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs, and switches.
• Maintain tools and equipment and keep supplies and parts in order; disassemble, repair and reassemble defective electrical equipment such as motors.
• Load, transport, unload, and furnish electrician with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary.
• Help install related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications; perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft workers.
• Participate in all safety related processes and programs; engage with the work team to ensure zero injuries.
• Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
• Participate in all pre‑job work planning and safety discussions; identify safety hazards and take corrective action to eliminate or mitigate hazards.
• Understand and respond to all safety hazards and warning devices.
• Understand, support, and follow lockout/tag‑out procedures.
• Follow established safety rules and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Listen to co‑workers’ suggestions, safety concerns and recommendations; ask questions and provide feedback.
• Coordinate work with other crafts and co‑workers on the job.
• Actively participate in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities.
• Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
• Learn to read and understand plans and specifications; visualize drawings.
• Assist in the storage, planning and layout of materials; learn to perform layout independently.
• Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; notify supervision of hazards and use stop‑work authority as needed.

• NCCER Construction Craft Laborer
• NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program

Minimum Qualifications

• 4001‑6000 hours (2‑3 years) experience working as an electrician and basic knowledge of electrical craft, including installation or maintenance of wiring, conduit, systems, equipment, and fixtures; testing with appropriate tools; familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC); must hold necessary licenses for the jurisdiction of work; must have necessary tools; at least 18 years of age.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Typical construction site environment.
• Working in cramped workspaces, awkward positions, extremely hot (above 90 °F) or cold (below 32 °F) temperatures, inclement weather, bright or low lighting, noise, hazardous equipment.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand, kneel, bend, stoop; use hands to handle tools; repetitive movement; climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds; work up to a 12‑hour shift in varying conditions.
