Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health in Massachusetts is looking for a Central Sterile Technician to support infection control and sterile processing in a hospital setting.

You will clean, sterilize, package and assemble instrument sets, handle reusable items through various sterilization methods, dispose of waste, inspect equipment, and assist in QA data collection across shifts. Enrollment in a CST program with completion within 1 year is required.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma required to start in sterile processing.
• Currently enrolled in a Central Sterile Technician program with completion and certification within 1 year of start.

Responsibilities

• Primary responsibility is infection control.
• Maintain sterile technique.
• Perform duties according to procedure.
• Clean, sterilize, package and assemble instrument sets.
• Process reusable items via steam, gas, washer, and ultrasonic sterilizers.
• Waste disposal and decontamination of contaminated items.

• Collect solid instruments, kits and equipment for processing.
• Daily maintenance and housekeeping on work stations as required.
• Assist in data collection for Quality Assurance programs.

Duties/Responsibilities

Job Description

• Primary responsibility is infection control.
• Maintain sterile technique.
• Performs all duties according to procedure.
• Cleans, sterilizes, packages and assembles instrument sets.
• Responsible for cleaning reusable items, including surgical pieces and processing through steam sterilizers, gas sterilizers, washer sterilizers, and ultrasonic if necessary.
• Responsible for waste disposal and decontamination of contaminated items.
• Inspects equipment and instruments through all procedural steps for condition and operation.
• Collects solid instruments, kits, equipment, etc. for processing.
• Responsible for daily maintenance and housekeeping duties on work stations as requires.
• Assist in collection of data for Quality Assurance Programs, ongoing.
• Growth potential for surgical case charts, sterilization containers, and CSR-computerized application.

Education/Experience Required

Registration/Certification

Pay Range

$19.90 - $34.81

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. The pay range for this position is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Employees hired into this position will receive compensation consistent with the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
