4‑H Environmental Educator – Rock Eagle

Responsibilities

• Independently lead, teach, and manage K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary outdoor classes focusing on ecology, team building, life history, and outdoor skills (70 % of time).
• Support overall center operations, including maintenance and upkeep of facilities; operating UGA vehicles; providing dining hall and canteen support; and undertaking projects as needed (15 % of time).
• Provide animal care, husbandry, and maintenance for residential education reptiles, amphibians, aquatic tanks, raptors, chickens, small mammals, and more (10 % of time).
• Lead staff responsibilities to support ongoing reservations and guests (5 % of time).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or a related field.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain.
• Strong teaching qualities: commitment, genuine interest in youth development, passion for education, enthusiasm for lifelong learning, and connection with students in science and the natural world.
• Strong work qualities: dynamic personality, excellent communication, positive attitude, creativity, leadership, integrity, relationship‑building, and desire to grow.
• Ability to teach a wide variety of K‑12 subjects.
• Experience managing groups of adults and students.
• Broad knowledge of outdoor education and willingness to learn new content.
• Strong communication with youth and adults.
• Customer service and hospitality/food industry experience.
• Teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work independently.

Physical Demands

Work in outdoor environments with exposure to varied weather; lift 20–40 pounds; walk up to 3 miles daily; driving required.
