Job description

Position Summary

This temporary Environmental Educator will work at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton, Georgia. The primary responsibility is to independently lead K‑12 grade students through multidisciplinary classes in an outdoor setting. Class subjects include life and earth science, ecology, team building, outdoor skills, and living history. Additional duties involve animal care, maintenance of teaching areas and resources, facilities, grounds, and support of general operations of the facility.

Responsibilities

• Lead, teach, and manage K‑12 grade students and chaperone adults through multidisciplinary outdoor classes.
• Provide general support of overall center operations, including maintenance of facilities, vehicles, dining services, and other projects as needed.
• Perform animal care and husbandry for residential education reptiles, amphibians, aquatic tanks, raptors, chickens, small mammals, and others.
• Support staff responsibilities for ongoing reservations and guests.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Education, Environmental Education, Forestry, Natural Resources, Outdoor Education, Science, or a related field.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification or willingness to obtain.

• Strong teaching skills with a passion for youth development, life‑long learning, and connecting students with meaningful science experiences.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills with youth, adults, and team members.
• Ability to manage groups of adults and students, both independently and in teams.
• Broad knowledge of outdoor education and willingness to expand content expertise.
• Customer service and hospitality experience.
• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing conditions.
• Experience caring for live teaching animals (reptiles, amphibians, etc.).
• Flexibility to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Physical Demands

Work exposed to outdoor elements, including adverse weather conditions, and be able to lift 20–40 pounds, walk approximately 3 miles daily, and drive as required.
