Qualifications

• Master’s or related degree with substantial DR/BCP experience.
• Gov cloud focus in Azure required or preferred.
• 3+ years in public/Gov cloud, Windows/Linux admin, and DR planning.

Role : Disaster Recovery Specialist
Client : DC Government
Location : Washington, DC (Hybrid on-site 3x/week)

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

1. 1. Conduct risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify vulnerable areas within the company’s critical functions.
2. 2. Recommend and implement disaster avoidance strategies and impact reduction strategies.
3. 3. Confer with IT department and other key personnel to determine if changes in hardware or software configurations affect disaster recovery plan outcomes.
4. 4. Direct and coordinate staff efforts to formulate department-specific disaster recovery plans.
5. 5. Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of contingency planning and development efforts.
6. 6. Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to obtain protection services and products.
7. 7. Download and test new disaster recovery software and/or technologies.
8. 8. Recommend, and where necessary, schedule and perform security improvements, upgrades, and/or purchases.
9. 9. Develop and establish disaster recovery procedures for the restoration of mission-critical business applications in the event of natural disasters, technical failures, power outages, and human interference.
10. 10. Manage and coordinate all aspects of actual recovery plan implementation and efforts, including initial emergency response, recovery procedures, and business resumption processes.
11. 11. Develop, implement, maintain, and oversee enforcement of policies, procedures and associated plans for disaster recovery administration and business continuity based on industry-standard best practices.
12. 12. Inform and train staff members on their responsibilities concerning business continuity procedures and emergency response.
13. 13. Ensure that company equipment, systems, services, and facility are compliant with disaster recovery plans and procedures.
14. 14. Ensure the preservation of vital information, data, or media through diligent maintenance of hard copies and backup equipment.
15. 15. Continually conduct simulations and test runs of system disruptions in order to revise and perfect plans.
16. 16. Assess need for any security reconfigurations (minor or significant) and execute them if required.
17. 17. Where appropriate, recommend, schedule, and apply fixes, security patches, and any other measures required in the event of business disruption.
18. 18. Investigate and select locations for off-site storage of data and backups.
19. 19. Keep current with emerging security alerts and issues.
20. 20. Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team

Education

1. 1. Master’s Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science OR Bachelor's degree with a combination of education and successful work experience (10 years)
2. 2. DR/BCP Certification in specialized areas (Required)

Qualifications

1. 1. Minimum (3) years of experience in design and maintenance of public/Gov cloud solutions with a focus on Microsoft Azure (Gov preferred) IaaS, PaaS service like Database services, Kubernetes etc.
2. 2. Minimum (3) years of experience providing IT administration and/or engineering services managing Windows and Linux Servers and Services.
3. 3. Broad hands-on knowledge of disaster recovery planning and other industry-standard techniques and practices.
4. 4. In-depth knowledge of all types of disasters, natural or otherwise, and their effect on company technologies.
5. 5. Working technical knowledge of current systems software, hardware, protocols, and standards
6. 6. Strong knowledge of network administration/protocols
7. 7. Solid project management skills.
8. 8. Knowledge of and experience with property and casualty insurance.
9. 9. Knowledge of applicable practices and laws relating to data privacy and protection.
10. 10. Excellent technical architecture skills, enabling the creation of future-proof, complex global solutions and Strong Experience across Applications Migration (On-Perm VMware) to Azure (Gov Cloud Preferred).
11. 11. Knowledge of network technologies as they relate to AWS.
12. 16. Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills.
13. 17. High level of analytical and problem-solving abilities.
14. 18. Ability to conduct research into recovery and security issues and products as required.
