While working at Caterpillar Inc., the successful candidate for this position will serve as a “CNC Technician” at the Building Construction Products Division’s plant in Athens, Georgia. This role primarily supports machining Small Track-Type Tractors (STTT) and Mini-Hydraulic Excavator (MHE) structures. It is a 3rd shift position, with work hours from 11 pm to 7:30 am (Sun-Fri), with potential for additional hours or schedule shifts based on business needs. The main responsibilities include process optimization, CNC machining, data analysis, and implementing tooling and fixture improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot and develop solutions for manufacturing issues.
  • Monitor and communicate machining process capabilities (Cpk and Cp reviews).
  • Lead tooling improvement projects.
  • Perform quality checks on machines, parts, and tooling.
  • Issue Process Change Notifications (PCNs) for program, fixture, or tooling changes.
  • Maintain records of machine coolant concentrations.
  • Collaborate with operations, quality, and engineering teams on manufacturing and engineering changes.
  • Update engineering documentation as needed.
  • Train team members on tooling setup and maintenance.
  • Respond to customer issues and lead process improvements.
  • Troubleshoot weld sequencer issues on the floor.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • At least three years of machining experience.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools.

Physical Requirements (with or without accommodations):

  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods.
  • Perform repetitive operations.
  • Lift up to 35 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma or associate degree in Machining Technology or related field.
  • Experience in writing and editing CNC programs.
  • Skill in modifying tooling and adjusting speeds/feeds for quality and cost efficiency.
  • Experience rebuilding and setting up complex cutting tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to inspect parts with complex gauges and interpret dimensional reports and SPC data.
  • Understanding of blueprints and GD&T.
  • Experience training peers and new employees in machining processes.
  • Experience conducting time studies and knowledge of lean manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with Power BI, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and Weld Sequencer.

Additional Information: Resumes must reflect actual work experience. This is a 3rd shift position (Sun-Fri; 11 pm-7:30 am), with potential for additional hours. Entry pay is $29.70/hour, including an 8% night shift premium.

Salary Range: $27.50 - $34.40

Compensation varies based on numerous factors including experience, job level, and market conditions. Salary is one component of total compensation.
