Job summary

Monarch Steel Company of Alabama, Inc. is hiring for a Setup Operator I to join our team in Alabama. The role involves setting up machines, maintaining tooling, and ensuring production meets customer specifications with emphasis on safety and quality.

Under general supervision, you will perform a variety of skilled tasks, operate and repair equipment, and contribute to a safe, efficient manufacturing environment. Great benefits accompany full-time employment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Industry knowledge and experience a plus.
  • Ability to read English and write simple correspondence.

Responsibilities

  • Embraces the 1 T.E.A.M. culture.
  • Wear all proper protective equipment and follow Safety Policy and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and good housekeeping.
  • Develop knowledge of slitter set-up program.
  • Generate build sheets based on production work orders.
  • Build heads utilizing build sheet instructions.
  • Maintain knife and rubber inventory.
  • Clean slitter knives and slitter tooling.
  • Set-up, maintain and repair production machines, tooling and other equipment.
  • Perform routine checks of parts to ensure product quality.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Setup Operator I position performs a variety of skilled tasks involved involving the set up of the machine and supplies; basic understanding of equipment and performs related work as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embraces the 1 T.E.A.M. culture
  • Wear all proper protective equipment as required in work and in accordance with Safety Policy and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by practicing safe work habits, good housekeeping procedures and adhering to safety guidelines.
  • Develop knowledge of slitter set-up program
  • Generate build sheets based on production work orders
  • Build heads utilizing build sheet instructions
  • Maintain knife and rubber inventory
  • Clean slitter knives and slitter tooling
  • Set-up, maintain and repair production machines, tooling and other equipment
  • Perform routine checks of parts to ensure quality of product
  • Constant inspection of machinery, equipment, and process to ensure safety
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to use computers, read tape measures, micrometers and calipers
  • Ability to perform complete set-up and operational tasks of slitting to ensure compliance with customer specifications and production requirements
  • Dependability in attendance, work completion, and flexibility to meet business needs
  • Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours/days as needed
  • Able to interact effectively with employees at all levels of the company
  • Able to read and comprehend simple work instructions, work orders, short correspondence and memos written in English
  • Able to write simple correspondence in English
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • Industry knowledge and experience, a plus
