Job summary

Central Plains Steel Co. in Wichita, KS is seeking a Press Brake Operator to form parts by bending with the press brake machine.

This full-time position is on the 3rd shift (8:30pm–7:00am) at Plant 2, and collaborates with laser operators and shipping to meet safety, quality, productivity, and delivery goals. The role requires reading blueprints, selecting correct materials, performing inline inspections, and operating multiple machines as workload demands.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver's License required.
• Ability to meet Level 4 (Heavy Work) capacity.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Adequate manual dexterity and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Review blueprints, work orders, and tooling instructions to understand machining characteristics.
• Determine processing specs (materials, sizes, tolerances, sequences).
• Ensure correct material per work orders and coordinate material handling.
• Position pieces and secure fixtures and tools.
• Monitor speeds, feeds, and tooling for operations.
• Create parts per drawings, handle different machines as needed.
• Measure pieces with calipers, micrometers, and scales for conformance.
• Perform in-process and finished product quality inspections.
• Operate safety procedures and report irregularities.
• Move materials using forklift or crane as required.
• Complete all required paperwork and documentation.

The Press Brake Operator is responsible for forming parts by bending them using the press brake machine. They work closely with the laser operators, parts breakdown team, and the shipping department to meet or exceed goals for Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Delivery.

Job Function

• Review and follow blueprints, work orders, tooling instructions or other written specifications to understand machining characteristics of various metals.
• Determine processing specifications such as materials, forms, sizes, surface conditions, material defects dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences.
• Ensure correct material for the job is used according to work orders.
• Coordinates and executes material handling.
• Position work pieces for processing (may operate a combination of different machines).
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and material onto machine.
• Select and monitor speeds, feeds, controls, and tooling.
• Determine operations sequence for various material and operating conditions.
• Create complicated or irregularly shaped parts or sections per established drawings, requiring careful blocking and clamping to avoid springing or distortion.
• Operates a variety of machines during processing as required based on workload or business needs.
• Measure and examine pieces using precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and squares to ensure conformance to work order specifications.
• Perform “In Process” and “Finished Product” quality control inspections.
• Clean equipment according to designated maintenance procedures.
• Diagnose problems and makes necessary adjustments.
• Report any irregularities to supervisor for direction.
• Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
• May mark identification on material/work pieces before or after processing.
• Move material from production areas to storage or other designated areas using forklift, side loader, or crane.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Required Skills

• Valid Driver’s License - required.

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities - required.
