PSI Molded Plastics Marion in Marion, SC is seeking a 3rd shift Maintenance Technician to perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plastic injection molding machines and facility systems, ensuring safe, reliable operations.

The role requires strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting, minimizing downtime and supporting continuous improvement across Production, Engineering and Quality teams.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree, certification, or formal training in Industrial Maintenance or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing plastic injection molding equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled machinery and automated manufacturing equipment.

Responsabilités

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on plastic injection molding machines and related equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on injection molding presses, including clamping/injection units and hydraulic/electrical systems.
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary equipment (dryers, chillers, grinders, conveyors, robotics).
  • Read electrical schematics and control diagrams; troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs and automation systems.
  • Complete preventive maintenance and document work orders and repairs.
  • Coordinate with Production, Engineering and Quality to minimize downtime and improve reliability.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining plastic injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations.

This position requires strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting skills, with an emphasis on minimizing equipment downtime, maintaining production efficiency, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The Maintenance Technician works closely with Production, Process Technicians, Engineering, and other departments to identify and resolve equipment issues while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance and Repair

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on plastic injection molding machines and associated equipment.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on injection molding presses, including clamping units, injection units, hydraulic systems, heating systems, and electrical controls.
  • Maintain and repair auxiliary equipment, including material dryers, chillers, thermolators, grinders, conveyors, material handling systems, and robotic equipment.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions to restore equipment to operation.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production maintenance requests to minimize downtime.
  • Replace or repair defective components, including motors, pumps, valves, sensors, heaters, switches, and other machine components.
  • Assist with equipment installations, relocations, modifications, and start-ups.

Preventive and Predictive Maintenance

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production machinery, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems.
  • Inspect equipment to identify wear, damage, potential failures, and unsafe operating conditions.
  • Complete lubrication, adjustments, calibrations, inspections, and replacement of worn components as required.
  • Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend corrective actions to prevent future failures.
  • Maintain accurate preventive maintenance records, work orders, and equipment repair documentation.
  • Support the development and improvement of preventive maintenance procedures and schedules.

Electrical, Mechanical, and Controls Troubleshooting

  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, hydraulic diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Troubleshoot electrical circuits, motors, relays, contactors, sensors, and control systems.
  • Diagnose issues involving programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and automated equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, and pressure controls.
  • Use diagnostic tools, meters, and testing equipment to identify equipment malfunctions.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting and repairs only within the employee's training, qualifications, and authorization.

Facility Maintenance

  • Assist with maintaining facility equipment and infrastructure, including compressed air systems, cooling water systems, HVAC equipment, lighting, and general building systems.
  • Perform general facility repairs and maintenance as assigned.
  • Identify and report facility conditions that could affect employee safety, equipment reliability, or production operations.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and service providers when necessary and as directed.

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA requirements.
  • Properly apply Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before performing maintenance or servicing equipment when required.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintain safe working practices.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, accidents, and near misses.
  • Ensure machine guards, interlocks, emergency stops, and other safety devices are functioning properly before equipment is returned to service.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance work area.
  • Follow applicable company quality procedures and IATF 16949:2016 requirements.
  • Participate in safety training, inspections, and continuous improvement activities.

Documentation and Communication

  • Accurately document maintenance activities, repairs, equipment failures, and preventive maintenance completion.
  • Communicate equipment issues, repair status, and outstanding maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Lead and appropriate production personnel.
  • Provide clear shift-to-shift communication regarding equipment conditions and unresolved maintenance issues.
  • Identify parts and materials needed for repairs and communicate inventory requirements.
  • Maintain accountability for assigned tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Complete assigned work orders, inspections, and maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner without repeated reminders.

Teamwork and Continuous Improvement

  • Work collaboratively with Production, Process Technicians, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to resolve equipment-related concerns.
  • Assist in identifying root causes of recurring equipment failures and implementing permanent corrective actions.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment reliability, maintenance procedures, workplace safety, and production efficiency.
  • Support equipment upgrades, automation improvements, and process improvement projects.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing production priorities and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with employees, supervisors, and management.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree, certification, or formal training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing plastic injection molding equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLC-controlled machinery and automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of robotics, automation systems, and material handling equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot industrial equipment and diagnose mechanical and electrical failures.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Basic understanding of preventive maintenance programs and maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and electrical diagnostic equipment safely.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules as business needs require.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, with assistance or mechanical lifting equipment for heavier loads.
  • Ability to work around moving machinery, electrical equipment, hydraulic systems, and industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to use ladders and work at elevated heights when properly trained and authorized.
  • Exposure to manufacturing noise, temperature variations, oils, lubricants, and other industrial conditions.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection when applicable.
  • Ability to perform maintenance activities requiring manual dexterity, visual inspection, and the use of hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
