Job summary

Leggett & Platt in Fort Smith, AR is hiring a maintenance technician to perform preventive and reactive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. You will troubleshoot equipment, interpret schematics, and ensure safe operation of plant machinery.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read prints and specifications and interpret them for repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Review maintenance work orders and PMs daily to ensure timely completion.
  • Analyze recurring machinery problems and propose permanent fixes and cost reductions.
  • Perform preventative and routine maintenance as scheduled.
  • Look up repair parts via prints and/or catalogs or online.
  • Provide own tools at specific facilities.
  • Work on mechanical drive systems (belts, pulleys, speed reducers, roller chain, sprockets, shafts, bearings).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical components and systems with strong diagnostic skills.
  • Operate lift equipment as needed.
  • Maintain housekeeping in the plant floor area and during repairs.
  • Perform facility/building maintenance and repair as required.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems (3 phase, single phase, AC/DC control) and replace components.
  • Identify and replace failed hydraulic components and repair hydraulic systems.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and safety rules.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review maintenance work orders and P.M.’s and projects assigned daily to insure tasks are being completed in a timely manner.
  • Analyze any reoccurring problems with machinery & equipment andcome up with permanent repair ideas and fixes and cost reduction.
  • Perform preventative & routine maintenance as scheduled in a timelymanner.
  • The ability to look up repair parts via prints and/or spreadsheets, catalogs or online.
  • Provide own tools (Only at specific facilities).
  • Perform work on mechanical drive systems such as belts, pulleys, speed reducers, roller chain, sprockets, shafts, and bearings mostly used on conveyor systems and tables.
  • Must have strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical components and systems.
  • Operate lift truck, scissor lift, boom lift and other equipment as needed.
  • Responsible for housekeeping duties in the maintenance work area and any area where repairs are being made on the plant floor; this includes wiping down any machinery worked on.
  • Perform facility/building maintenance and repair and projects as needed and required in a timely manner.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot in electrical systems and components: 3 phase, single phase, and AC and DC control voltage used on contactor, drives, photo eyes, proximity switches, coils, limit switches, safety switches, fuses and breakers.
  • Ability to replace failed electrical components as needed.
  • Ability to replace, repair or fit pipes and piping systems.
  • Hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be able to identify failed hydraulic components and repair as neededon hydraulic systems control valves, pumps, cylinders and pressuretransducers.
  • Must follow all rules, policies, and procedures outlined in the company handbook.
  • Must be able to operate and understand lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Follow all safety procedures and practices.
  • Other duties as requested/assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • This position requires a minimum of 1 year technical with 1 year experience or a minimum of 2 years of experience in electro-mechanical/industrial maintenance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience in one skill area of: hydraulic, electronics, plumbing, robotics, electrical, mechanical, welding and general carpentry.
