Great Northern Corporation is hiring a Maintenance Technician for the 3rd shift (Overnights, Sun–Thu 10:15pm–6:15am) at our Brooklyn Park, MN facility. Comp: $33–$39/hr + $2.00/hr shift differential. Training may start on 1st shift.

Responsibilities include troubleshooting machinery, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and basic repair tasks. Work performed under standard procedures, with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.

  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Welding and basic plumbing repair skills, plus safe operation of equipment.

Job Description

3rd Shift - Maintenance Technician (Plus $2.00/hour Shift Differential)

Pay/Schedule

  • $33/hour - $39/hour - Dependent upon experience & qualifications (Plus $2.00/hour Shift Differential)
  • 3rd Shift (Overnights): Sunday - Thursday from 10:15pm until 6:15am
  • Training schedule preferred: 1st Shift, Monday - Friday for the first 1-2 months

Position Summary

Under general supervision and following established procedures, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing semi-routine maintenance tasks for the Plant Operations facility and for Administrative Offices facility. Typical duties will include but are not necessarily limited to: assisting Senior Maintenance Technicians in troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems, troubleshooting and resolving semi-routine and complex plant machinery mechanical malfunctions, repairing problems related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and providing assistance for office moves, adds, and changes, as necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical breakdowns related to plant operations machinery and related equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical breakdowns related to hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs minor electrical outages related to plant operations equipment and corporate office electrical needs.
  • Performs basic plumbing repair as required including plugged sewer lines and minor sewer repair.
  • Performs welding repair as required on plant operations machinery and related equipment.
  • Assists Senior Maintenance Technicians in general repair, alteration, small-scale new construction and preventative maintenance work.
  • Keeps maintenance area neat, clean and orderly; cleans up after completing maintenance work throughout the plant.
  • Monitors unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunctions and discuss machine operation variations with Supervisors or other Maintenance Workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment.
  • Inspects and measures machine parts to detect wear, misalignment, dimensional requirements or other problems.
  • Removes, repairs and replaces worn or defective parts, mechanisms and systems.
  • Realigns and adjusts functional parts, components, devices and control adjustments.
  • Starts machines and equipment to test operation following repair.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all machines by cleaning and lubricating shafts, bearings, gears and other parts of the machinery.
  • Repairs or replaces electrical apparatus, such as wiring, and electrical components of machinery and equipment.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Use forklift to move equipment up to and including rigging of machine sections and rolls.
  • Follows safe operating procedures and all safety rules in accordance with Company policy and in accordance with OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Repairs and maintains the facilities (inside and outside of building).
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, fixtures and tools.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other fixtures or structures.
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts, equipment and machines.
  • Shovels snow and operates snow blower equipment as required.
  • Participates in periodic staff meetings as required.
  • Participates and is certified as a member of the First Responders Committee.
  • Participates and is certified as a member of the HAZ MAT team.
  • Performs overtime work and on-call support work as required of the position.
  • Participates in training and development programs as required of the position.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous job-related tasks as may be assigned from time to time by a Management Representative.
