Job summary

Advanced Correctional Healthcare is seeking a part-time LPN to provide nursing care at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia, SC. The role includes administering medications, recording vital signs, and collaborating with medical and security staff.

This position requires an active LPN license in the state, BLS certification, and strong documentation skills. The 3rd shift and on-site responsibilities offer hands-on patient care within a correctional environment.

Qualifications

• Active nursing license in the state in which services are to be provided, in good standing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; hands-on training
• Excellent documentation skills
• Knowledge of the LPN scope of practice

Responsibilities

• Understands and performs work within the LPN’s scope of practice
• Timely and accurately plan and deliver nursing care to patients
• Check and record vital signs, peak flows, blood glucose checks, weight, and other diagnostic tests on-site, when appropriate
• Prioritize intake screenings for necessity and priority at sick call
• Provide patient education on topics such as the correctional facility’s policies and discharge planning
• Administer prescribed medication, treatments and other tasks as ordered by the practitioner
• Record information in chronic clinic and outcome study documents as indicated
• Provide emergency first aid care, as appropriate
• Report reactions to treatments and medications, as well as changes in the patients’ emotional or physical condition
• Collect and record data for CQI reporting
• Record care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner
• Collaborate and coordinate multiple medical services for diagnosis and treatment, as directed by the practitioner
• Maintain knowledge of pharmacology and nutrition
• Coordinate on- and off-site medical services with staff as directed
• Utilizes Universal Precautions for infection prevention
• Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA practices
• Notify supervisor of medical and security incidents
• Present/participate in in-service education sessions
• May cover shifts at other ACH clients’ facilities
• May train new hires and coworkers
• Any and all other duties as assigned
