Job summary

CBRE Government and Defense Business is seeking a General Maintenance Worker to perform routine upkeep across buildings, equipment and facility systems. You will support trades personnel and help ensure safe, functional facilities with hands-on tasks in HVAC, plumbing and electrical areas.

Required is a high school diploma, 1–3 years of facilities experience, and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Work is performed under supervision in a on-site setting with basic hand tools and PPE as needed.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of general maintenance or facilities experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
• Replace and repair components such as light fixtures, switches, receptacles, belts, and small motors.
• Conduct minor patching and repair of walls and ceilings, including painting and surface touch-ups.
• Repair or replace plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, water coolers, and lavatory components.
• Install and replace carpet tiles and perform basic flooring repairs.
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes and general cleaning of equipment and work areas.
• Assist with mechanical and maintenance work, including the use of hand tools and basic equipment.
• Support laborer functions such as moving materials and maintaining clean and organized workspaces.
• Assist higher-level trades personnel with maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
• Follow safety procedures, policies, and regulatory requirements at all times.
• Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned by management.

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing routine maintenance and repair tasks across buildings, equipment, and facility systems. This role requires basic practical skills and a working knowledge of multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The position supports higher-level trades personnel and ensures facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on building systems, equipment, and infrastructure
• Replace and repair components such as light fixtures, switches, receptacles, belts, and small motors
• Conduct minor patching and repair of walls and ceilings, including painting and surface touch-ups
• Repair or replace plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, water coolers, and lavatory components (washers, seats, etc.)
• Install and replace carpet tiles and perform basic flooring repairs
• Perform preventative maintenance tasks such as filter changes and general cleaning of equipment and work areas
• Assist with mechanical and maintenance work, including the use of hand tools and basic equipment
• Support laborer functions such as moving materials and maintaining clean and organized workspaces
• Assist higher-level trades personnel with maintenance and repair tasks as needed

• Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned by management
• This position is not a journeyman-level role and does not independently lead or manage jobs
• Work is performed under the direction of supervisors or skilled trades personnel

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• 1–3 years of general maintenance or facilities experience preferred

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:

• Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
• Ability to use hand tools and basic maintenance equipment safely and effectively
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision
• Good communication and teamwork skills

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift, carry, and move materials (up to 50 lbs or more as required)
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and climbing
• May work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and confined spaces
• Exposure to varying temperatures and environmental conditions
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
