Job summary

Weeks Marine, Inc. seeks a 2nd Assistant Engineer Unlimited to join our engine department aboard a hopper dredge.

You will perform daily preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and watch duties under the Chief Engineer, ensuring safe and reliable operation. The role requires hands-on diesel experience, current MMC with 3rd Assistant Engineer Unlimited, USCG STCW certs, TWIC, and the ability to mobilize to Gulf/East Coast ports on a 21/21 rotation.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical aptitude with diesel engines.
• Recent sea time in engine department roles (Dredge, OSV, towing, or similar).
• Ability to work a 21/21 rotation and mobilize to Gulf/East Coast ports.

Responsibilities

• Engineering watchstanding — Stand engine room watches and monitor propulsion, auxiliary, and dredge‑support systems.
• Preventive maintenance — Execute PMS tasks on engines, pumps, generators, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Troubleshooting & repairs — Diagnose equipment issues and perform corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Dredge system support — Assist with machinery supporting dredge operations, including drag arm, pump, and hopper systems.
• Recordkeeping — Maintain accurate logs, maintenance records, and regulatory documentation.
• Safety & compliance — Uphold USCG, ABS, and environmental standards; participate in drills and safety meetings.
• Team collaboration — Work closely with senior engineers and deck leadership to support vessel readiness.

Position Summary

The 2nd Assistant Engineer (Unlimited) supports safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all engineering systems aboard a Weeks Marine hopper dredge. This role performs daily maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and watchstanding duties under the direction of the Chief Engineer. The 2AE ensures compliance with all regulatory, environmental, and company standards while contributing to the vessel’s overall dredging mission.
