Job Description
AMA's George Sanchez Charter School System is recruiting for a 10‑month Teacher position for 3rd‑5th grade students. This primary teaching role emphasizes small class sizes, classroom technology, and flexibility for teachers to innovate and provide wrap‑around services for families.
George I. Sanchez School, founded in 1973 and chartered in 1996, serves approximately 900 students, primarily Hispanic.
Responsibilities
- Plan a program of study that meets each student’s individual needs, interests, and abilities.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual differences and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
- Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guide the learning process toward achieving curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and communicating them to students.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of individual students or groups.
- Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Assess students’ accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
- Refer students for evaluation by district specialists as needed.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
- Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable rules for classroom behavior, and maintain order fairly.
- Be available to students and parents for education‑related purposes as required.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers, and evaluate their performance cooperatively with department heads.
- Maintain and improve professional competence.
- Participate in district staff development, staff meetings, and serve on staff committees.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and community members.
- Maintain open communication with parents.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Texas Teacher Certificate appropriate for the level and subject area of assignment (Preferred).
- ESL and Bilingual experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms with all levels of management, internal and external to the district.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective internal and external working relationships with the district.
- Ability to adjust vision to focus on objects, judge distance, and use hands to manipulate a keyboard.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds; stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, bend, climb, and be mobile.
- Ability to travel throughout the district and city using private or public transportation; a valid driver’s license and appropriate insurance required for personal vehicle use.
