Job summary

Smith & Loveless is seeking a Welder – MIG/FCAW (3G) to join our welding team in an environmentally focused industry. You will layout, fit-up, assemble and weld fabricated parts and sub-assemblies to meet ASME code requirements.

You must be able to read drawings, pass a 3G FCAW test, and work in various positions. ASME/D1.1 and D1.6 certifications are preferred, with potential for crane operation and code compliance training.

Qualifications

  • ASME D1.1/D1.6 certifications preferred.
  • 2–3 years FCAW experience preferred.
  • Must be able to read drawings/blueprints.
  • Must be able to pass a 3G FCAW test.

Responsibilities

  • Welds according to prints, work orders, BOMs, and procedures.
  • Performs layout, fit-up, assembly, and welding of sub-assemblies and parts.
  • Regulates welding machines to meet code procedures as required.
  • Maintains certifications and safety standards.
  • Reports equipment issues to supervisor.

Visually checks and corrects defects.Performs simple maintenance to welding equipment, such as removing and/or replacing guns, cables or clamps.Changes rolls of wire.Uses overhead crane to position and move parts, materials and assemblies in his work area during the normal performance of his job.Makes welds in all positions as required, according to ASME code specifications and S&L approved procedures.Passes ASME and code welding certification test as required. Performs in conformity with same.Reports abnormal conditions of equipment to his supervisor.Observes all safety rules and regulations and keeps work area and equipment clean and orderly.Maintains certifications as specified in codes.Other duties as assigned by the Weld Supervisor.Keep work area neat and clean.Skills/RequirementsASME, AWS D1.1 and D1.6 certifications preferred.2-3 years previous FCAW experience preferred. Pipe welding experience is a plusMust be able to read, write and communicate clearly.Ability to read drawings and blueprints.Must be able to pass a 3G FCAW test administered at Smith & Loveless. 6G weld proficiency preferred.Read and understand units of measurements and properly use a tape measure.Demonstrated good work attendance.Must be able to pass a background check, alcohol screening, and drug test.Physical requirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
