Job summary

Unboxed Group, a Los Angeles-based global creative agency, seeks a 3D Experiential Designer to translate concepts into immersive environments and guest experiences. You’ll work with the Senior Experiential Designer and Production teams to move projects from concept to installation, ensuring designs are visually compelling, technically sound, and production-ready.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Scenic Design, Experiential Design, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3-5+ years designing live events, experiential environments, hospitality experiences, consumer activations, exhibitions, or branded environments within an agency or related setting.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development through built execution, showing creative thinking and technical problem solving.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects under senior creative leadership.
  • Excellent visual communication, presentation, storytelling, and organizational skills with production-ready artwork.

Responsibilities

  • Design live events, premieres, hospitality environments, consumer activations, branded environments, temporary architecture, installations, and immersive experiences.
  • Develop concepts translating client objectives into engaging physical environments and guest experiences.
  • Produce mood boards, narratives, floor plans, renderings, decks, graphics, and design documentation.
  • Support guest journeys, touchpoints, and spatial experiences.
  • Maintain attention to detail and ensure creative work aligns with brand standards and objectives.
  • Lead assigned projects from concept through execution with senior leadership guidance.
  • Support larger productions and agency initiatives.
  • Manage design schedules, milestones, revisions, and deliverables to meet deadlines.
  • Participate in internal meetings, design reviews, and project kickoffs.
  • Develop production-ready packages supporting estimating, fabrication, permitting, installation, and client approvals.
  • Attend site visits, venue walkthroughs, fabrication reviews, installations, and onsite execution when required.
  • Maintain organized project files, assets, and documentation.

Position Overview

The 3D Experiential Designer is responsible for designing immersive environments and live experiences that transform creative ideas into thoughtful, buildable, and memorable guest experiences. Working closely with the Senior Experiential Designer, Production team, and Executive Leadership, this role supports projects from concept development through installation, ensuring every design solution is visually compelling, strategically grounded, and production-ready. The 3D Experiential Designer is expected to think beyond aesthetics, developing creative solutions that are technically sound, executable, and aligned with the operational realities of live event production. This role independently manages smaller projects while supporting larger, more complex productions under the direction of the Senior Experiential Designer, with success requiring strong conceptual thinking, exceptional attention to detail, technical knowledge, and the ability to collaborate across creative and production disciplines in a fast-paced agency environment.

Key Responsibilities
Experiential Design
  • Design live events, premieres, hospitality environments, consumer activations, branded environments, temporary architecture, installations, and immersive experiences.
  • Develop creative concepts that translate client objectives into engaging physical environments and memorable guest experiences.
  • Produce mood boards, creative narratives, floor plans, renderings, presentation decks, environmental graphics, and design documentation.
  • Support the development of guest journeys, branded touchpoints, scenic environments, and spatial experiences.
  • Maintain exceptional attention to detail while ensuring all creative work aligns with brand standards and project objectives.
Project Ownership
  • Independently lead assigned projects from concept through execution with guidance from senior creative leadership as needed.
  • Support Senior Experiential Designers on larger-scale productions and agency initiatives.
  • Manage design schedules, milestones, revisions, and creative deliverables to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Participate in internal creative and project meetings, including brainstorming sessions, design reviews, and project kickoffs.
  • Develop production-ready creative packages that support estimating, fabrication, permitting, installation, and client approvals.
  • Participate in site visits, venue walkthroughs, fabrication reviews, installations, and onsite execution when required.
  • Maintain organized project files, design assets, and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Producers, Executive Producers, Technical Designers, Fabricators, Operations, and vendors throughout project development and execution.
  • Balance creative vision with budgets, schedules, venue requirements, fabrication constraints, and client feedback to keep concepts executable.
  • Collaborate with fabrication partners to review materials, finishes, construction methods, scenic treatments, and installation details - including shop drawings and material samples - to ensure alignment with approved creative.
  • Support value engineering efforts by identifying creative alternatives that preserve the guest experience while maintaining budget objectives.
Client Support
  • Participate in client presentations, design reviews, and workshops, presenting creative concepts and design rationale with confidence and professionalism.
  • Incorporate client feedback while maintaining alignment with the overall creative direction.
  • Build strong client relationships through responsiveness, collaboration, and attention to detail.
  • Support executive leadership and contribute creative ideas during agency pitches and new business presentations as needed.
Creative Development
  • Research emerging trends and explore new materials, technologies, fabrication methods, and immersive experiences across hospitality, entertainment, architecture, retail, and design.
  • Support the continued evolution of the agency's creative standards, templates, presentation quality, and design methodologies.
  • Maintain awareness of industry best practices and continuously seek opportunities to improve creative workflows and project outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Industrial Design, Scenic Design, Experiential Design, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 3-5+ years designing live events, experiential environments, hospitality experiences, consumer activations, exhibitions, temporary architecture, or branded environments within an agency or related creative setting.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating concept development through built execution, showing both creative thinking and technical problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects while supporting larger, more complex initiatives under senior creative leadership.
  • Exceptional visual communication, presentation, storytelling, and organizational skills, including the ability to create presentation-quality renderings and materials that clearly communicate design intent to clients and internal teams.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) for concept development, environmental graphics, presentation design, and production-ready artwork.
  • Strong proficiency in SketchUp for 3D modeling, environmental visualization, and space planning, plus experience with Rhino, Enscape, Lumion, Twinmotion, or comparable 3D/real-time rendering platforms.
  • Strong understanding of environmental graphics, branding integration, typography, color theory, materiality, and spatial composition.
  • Strong understanding of experiential production workflows, fabrication processes, materials, and installation methodologies, including scenic construction, custom millwork, metal fabrication, dimensional graphics, vinyl applications, soft goods, lighting integration, and specialty finishes.
  • Ability to develop production-ready creative documentation (floor plans, elevations, finish schedules, installation details, creative specifications) and to read/interpret architectural drawings, venue plans, CAD layouts, and technical documentation.
  • Understanding of production workflows including estimating, value engineering, fabrication reviews, material sampling, mock-ups, logistics, installation sequencing, and strike planning.
  • Ability to review fabrication drawings, shop drawings, material samples, and production documentation to ensure alignment with the approved creative vision.
  • Ability to balance creativity with production feasibility, budgets, schedules, venue requirements, and client expectations.
  • Strong understanding of guest flow, accessibility, life safety considerations, and experiential space planning.
  • Working knowledge of lighting, AV integration, furniture specifications, rental inventories, temporary structures, and venue operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate directly with producers, technical designers, scenic fabricators, print vendors, rental partners, and installation teams across multidisciplinary, fast-paced project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing entertainment premieres, hospitality environments, luxury brand activations, sporting events, cultural experiences, or large-scale public events.
  • Experience working within an experiential creative agency, event production company, architecture firm, or design studio.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted visualization tools and evolving creative technologies.
  • Knowledge of architectural drafting standards and production documentation best practices.
  • Experience with guest journey mapping, environmental storytelling, and immersive design principles.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as project needs require.
  • Must submit a portfolio or samples of relevant work to be considered.
  • Flexibility to work non-traditional hours based on event schedules.
  • Must have a personal vehicle for occasional local travel - mileage compensation provided.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Pay: $110,000 - $135,000 per year
