CLASSROOM ASSISTANT

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Classroom Assistant is responsible for upholding the purpose, standards, and policies of RPMS as outlined in the Parent and Employee Handbooks under the supervision and evaluation of the Head Teacher. The Classroom Assistant must conduct themselves professionally and ethically at all times, maintaining confidentiality regarding children, families, and organizational matters.

Job Function:

The Classroom Assistant supports the Head Teacher in guiding children's academic, emotional, and physical activities within a prepared Montessori environment that encourages each child's development to their fullest potential.

Job Responsibilities:

Classroom

  • Assist in preparing an environment with complete furnishings and materials suited to the group's needs.
  • Assist in caring for and maintaining classroom materials.
  • Help keep the environment clean, sanitary, and aesthetically pleasing, encouraging children to share responsibility where appropriate.
  • Maintain an annual inventory of classroom materials.
  • Assist in training and supervising children during fire drills and emergency procedures.
  • Protect the privacy and maintain a positive working atmosphere within the classroom.

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Assist in maintaining curriculum plans, observational and academic records, attendance, and progress reports.
  • Report accidents immediately, providing details and actions taken, and notify the Head Teacher.
  • Report any unusual incidents to the Head Teacher promptly.

Interactions with Children

  • Model positive attitude, speech, and attire, treating all children with dignity and respect.
  • Develop positive rapport and encourage participation among all children.
  • Use a respectful, quiet speaking voice and communicate effectively with children.
  • Introduce materials, observe children, and assist without interrupting concentration.
  • Ensure children's safety and well-being at all times.

General Administration

  • Assist in implementing school policies, procedures, and educational design.
  • Attend staff and school meetings as required.
  • Participate in goal setting, self-evaluation, and professional development discussions.
  • Support other projects and planning initiatives as assigned.
  • Follow all policies outlined in the Staff Handbook and adhere to AMS guidelines and standards.
