Job summary

CHEP in Georgia is hiring a Yard Driver to support trailer yard operations. You will move trailers with a spotter truck, back trailers into docks, and keep the yard safe and organized.

Six months yard experience preferred; HS diploma or equivalent and a valid driver’s license required. Starting pay is $19/hour with a $1/hour shift differential on 2nd shift, with OT opportunities.

Qualifications

Job Description

Key Responsibilities May Include:

Trailer Movement & Yard Maintenance

• Safely operate spotter trucks to move trailers to and from dock doors, loading areas, and storage locations within the yard, hooking and unhooking trailers
• Keep the yard clean and organized, ensuring that trailers are parked in designated areas and that there is a clear path for movement

Safety Compliance & Inspection ·

• Follow all CHEP and regulatory safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to traffic laws within the yard.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of yard trucks and trailers to ensure they are in safe operating condition, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.

Documentation & Coordination

• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements, including the location, time, and any issues encountered.
• Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, loaders, and Shipping and receiving clerks to ensure trailers are in the correct locations at the right times

Other Duties as Assigned

• Perform additional tasks as directed by management.
• Ability to lift/carry up to 78lbs
• Push/Pull items with a maximum force of 34 lbs/feet

SHIFT:

2nd shift: Monday - Thursday (6:00PM-4:45AM) Friday & Weekend reserved for OT.

STARTING PAY RATE: $19.00 per hour, plus $1.00 per hour shift differential.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• As a Yard Driver you will assist operations in an active trailer yard, performing a variety of duties including operating a spotter truck.
• Candidates will have at least six months of yard driver experience in a vehicle of similar size and weight.
• Proficiency in backing trailers into dock doors and parking slips.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the trailer yard through daily yard audits.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Must have a validdriver’s.
• Climb in and out of the spotter truck numerous times per day, hooking and unhooking trailers.
  

PREFERRED SKILLS

• Commercial driving experience.
